☆ My Good/Bad Luck Charm ☆: The long and odd rescue of a S13

Hi everyone, I figured I'd share the build of my S13 since I haven't really done that in detail even tho I'd like to.

It all started in 2014 around the time of Final Bout 1 that I came into possession of this coupe.
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

It was a car the guys at Gold Star had gotten for from someone that had to get rid of it since their neighbor wasn't happy it was sitting on their lawn.
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

I bought the car from Max (deolio) after unsuccessfully searching on and off for about 3 years. Now I know what you're thinking, "240s are cheap why did it take you so long?" Well I'm impatient for saving money, My job working for my dad as a mechanic wasn't making so much since work was slow and I already had a daily that i was working on a little bit. This car wasn't exactly for sale but i bugged max enough to sell it to me and he needed more final bout money. I thought it was the perfect platform since it would help me learn about the car while building and i'd know everything would be in good shape since a lot of new parts were gonna be needed to put this thing together.

Dual cam KA he threw in, unknown condition but the guy he got if from said it was good
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

Car didn't have a trans but got one from a customer of a friend
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

The car in it's new home, my shop. Where I had every tool possible at my disposal so no excuse as to why i couldn't build this car. I started working on cars with my dad around the 7th grade and at this point I'm in 2nd year of college.
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

Shortly after getting the car I made an impulse buy on some SSR Gartmaiers on yahoo since they were really cheap, i put them on boat shipping since i knew this car wouldnt be ready soon.
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

So i didn't want to put that motor in without checking it first, so we pulled the head off and to check the sealing abilty of the top and bottom. Head was perfect but we found out the pistons were cracked.

ISIS/ISR Blast pipe exhaust kit, like the crappiest exhaust you can buy if your car is low FYI, fits like shit too.

Alright, Break out the tequila boys cuz here's where shit gets fucked up.

One morning i get woken up by my mom and she's telling me i need to get to the shop since someone crashed into it and my dads been there since 4am. I thought "wow, thats weird, it pretty hard to crash into since we're on such a small street". It wasn't until i was about halfway there i realized that i had left my car behind the side door and knew there was a chance something had happened to my car. Sure enough when i arrive...

Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

So the guy that crashed into the shop didnt run cuz he lived down the street and knew my dad, had insurance blah blah blah so i thought this was gonna be an easy process to get my car fixed.

WRONG

Why do I say that? because his insurance company were fuck heads even though it was one of the big brands, cant remember which one. It ended being a 3-4 month ordeal before i finally had the check in my hands. MEANWHILE i had already singed up for my first drift event two months from when the crashed happened. So since the insurance adjuster wasn't expected to come look at the car until after the event, what i did was put what i could on the car while keeping it reversible after the event. My first drift event was supposed to be with all my friends and i wasnt gonna let anything stop me from going.

Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr
Untitled by joshg51, on Flickr

So two days before the event is the car's maiden voyage since the crash, and i notice something odd very while driving, the wheel was off and it was squirmy even at 30mph. it turned out one of my toe rods in the back got bent in the crash. So i get it aligned the next day and while they couldn't get it in spec it was a lot better than before. So i borrowed some front wheels and the car was ready to drift!

Car drove perfect the whole weekend and had a blast with all my friends. After the event i got the money from the insurance and here's where things speed up for a bit for the car.

Time to finally update this a lot has happned since last time. Sorry in advance for image sizing, Flickr joined Photobucket in the dark side and figuring out Imgur right now.

Dyed my brown interior black.

Back together

Picked up new bash bars

Stripping

Stripped, the black is below the chrome.

Acid Stripped

Prestige Metal Coatings is A1. Go to them.

Okay okay. I see you trying to keep it steezy while getting some driving in.

Was really feeling it up until the ebay hotboi cage, hah. And BRUH, get some mufuckin' tension rods under the front of this thing! Those stockers are killing your feel and grip!

I think I know the answer but, is that a Chargespeed front bumper? the one with the integrated grill piece.
*Nevermind I saw your post in the aero thread, GCorp.

yup bought this car to drive and looking cool is just the bonus.
and yeah next thing is tension rods mainly because with the front end most likely not going to be perfect so it'll need the adjustability. Been something on the list for a while. I also put in a nismo power brace and did some stitch welding on the chassis around the strut towers so with tension rods it should feels really tight now. I never wanted a weld in cage cuz this is a street style car for the most part. Want to keep full interior so it stays comfy and quiet as possible. Only got it cuz one of the closer venues in Monterey, Ca that i like for drifting requires 4 pt minimum with door bars for tandems so after i shake the car down i'll add bolt in bars. And at 400 dollars plus 200 for door bars it worth it for me to put in literally for one track. Thunderhill doesn't need it and Sonoma Raceway is wack people wise besides the ridiculous rules.

So far it seems to work fine. Havent really tested since its had no radiator in it but oil pressure seems to be reading correct. I also have the speedo and RPM hooked up to it. I like it cuz it has audible and visual alarms you can set if things get too hot or oil pressure disappears which is nice so i dont have to look it. I'll hook boost up to it when I go KA-T but i might run a real gauge along side it to be sure im not overboosting. And I'm just using the sensors it came with.

Ya Duraflex G Corp Bumper and it fits really well. I was so scared spending 375 dollars on a bumper that might suck considering they're reputation on some kits but i'm pretty happy its all good. Even got a small discount using the zilvia special. The bondo repair you see is just from my friend hitting a cone with it lol. Also the integrated Grill isnt just for for looks cuz it actually doubles as a place to put zipties to hold the bumper up with grill tabs on the headlights if you dont have bash bar or crash support because of a FMIC (which is why the front opening is so big) So i thought that was pretty trick of g corp.
