Want to paint my car Candy Apple Red - Is there a stock color substitute?
We all know that a candy apple red paint job is usually sprayed over a silver, gold (even pink) base. The more coats, the darker the color will get. This can make it close to impossible to match the paint. So chipped candy apple red bumper? In order to get a perfect match you will have to, in most cases, repaint the car.
I love candy apple red but in no way want to have to deal with that mess^^ A lot of the newer car manufacturers out there are coming up with gorgeous reds. Are there any out there you would consider to be close to a candy apple red? Example: Dodge Inferno Red Pearl

paint will stay for a good amount of time but that doesnt matter with a candy. you can allways order more paint thats the same shade because these days its all mixed by computer and they throw a barcode on the side of the can they give you. so if you want more they just scan it and give you more. but the application of the paint changes every time you paint it so your best bet is to go with a Urathane premixed candy. you can spray it over anything and its allready got the clear in it. add some flex and you are good to go. its not a clear so it wont bet darker every time you spray it.

If you are painting your car yourself, just buy a lot of same color and don't worry about it. Just remember how many coats you put down VISUALLY NOT BY COUNTING THE COATS!!!!!!!!! -that's where most people fuck it up when they paint pearl/candy clears.
If you don't paint quite a bit, don't mess with it. Just buy a second, and third kit and have everything sprayed at once or go with a premixed OEM color.

Be careful when you choose a body shop to do it, some painters don't know how to spray candy coats and they will end up coming out cloudy and uneven.
Also, I would still buy your own paint so you know later exactly what colors were put on the car. It's extremely helpful if you plan on fixing chips and breaking aero but it will look incredible. Candy Apple over Alpine Silver = WIN

My recommendation would be to go with a pearl they are a little more opaque than candies and have the metallic elements suspended in the base.
Personally I love the Mazda Velocity Red Mica but it is a three stage process. Base, candy, then clear. Any real candy job will require three stages.

Candys are vary transparent, when you see a candy you are looking threw the candy top coat and looking at a base silver or gold, pain in the ass to do. I just finished up with one and you half to clear it right after or the candy top coat will crack, IT IS NOT FUN.

pearl is tiny flake, candy is transparent. Pearl really only shows up semi transparent when it is in the clear coat, but will never lose the metalic appearance.

Aspen White Pearl on the 240SX is the same way. base, mid, clear coats.
You don't necessarily have to repaint the entire car though. I'd search paint catalogs for 'candy' and see what are just base / clear combos.

To be perfectly honest, if you are going to get a specialty red, you might as well pick up some silver base and candle apple top coat. Silver isn't expensive, and candy alone isnt really that bad but ANY red paint is almost twice as expensive as any other color aside from metallic orange, and if you get a SPECIALTY RED, you are going to throw out quite a bit for it.
I just picked up a pint of straight red yesterday, $45.00 for the paint NO REDUCER, NO CLEAR COAT, NO NOTHING JUST A FUCKING PINT OF PAINT!!!!!! You need about a half a gallon to spray a car, so do the math. A specialty red with pearls and shit in it you are screwed at like $200 for a gallon + reducer + sealer+ clear Do candy, spend the fucking money already so you know you are going to get what you want.
