My friend has a roof spoiler on his s14 and its held on by 3m tape from what it looks like. He told me if I remove the spoiler I can get it for free and was wondering what the best way would be?

I dont want to damage it!

someone said hig grade fishing lure,has anyone tried that before?

there is a wire thing that people use to remove window moulding. thats what i had planned on using to remove mine eventually.

Fishing line works better on 'brittle' glues and stuff. VHB tape, which is what 3M's grey double-sided tape is, should be pried off - it's easier than emblems/etc because there's a gap (maybe 1/16") between the wing and the glass that you should be able to get a scraper in, and start prying it up.

I have used a long-handle scraper in the past, you can get them for like $3 at Harbor Freight.

As long as you don't knick the glass with the edges, shouldn't hurt the glass either.

dot 3 brake fluid!!!!!!!!!! jk jk try some goo gone around the edges then start using the fishing string or cheese string! and if u cant rip it off and get his car painted if paint chips off (didnt read through on window lol)

Also can try a plastic trim tool to pry it up with while at the same time using a fillet knife to cut tthe tape.

what you can try also is buy a metal spreader the one used for body filler... sharpen it up by sanding the edge of it or with a grinder (use eye protection). Then as you pull the spoiler run the spreader in between. Just dont pull too much but enough to seperate the tape. Just be careful with razor blades as you may chip the paint.

good idea but just gota be careful not to heat that area up so much that the paint will bubble up. Not only that but if too much heat you can warp the metal

i was going to install a roof wing on my s14 ... anyways im sure it held on more than a 3m tape. the shop that sold me the wing also gave me a double sided tape and some sort of silicone to mount the spoiler.

but i see some peep on the thread already said what i was going to say "use heat" (heat gun mite be to much, just use a blow dryer) and use a putty knife to slowly remove it.

roofwing glue/tape is best taken off by just using a fishing line.

scrape her off, then use a razor blade to scrape off the rest of the tape/glue on the window.

What do you think you're going to damage, the tape? No matter what method you use you're not going to be able to reuse the tape anyway. Remove the spoiler with a heatgun and anything flat, pry tool, flathead, anything.

Remove the tape from the spoiler after it's off the car with an adhesive eraser on a drill. It's a big chunk of rubber like a pencil eraser, takes moulding tape right off.

I have always used an eraser wheel and plugged it into a drill and went to town.
