HELP! RB20DET in S14 w/ Brand new Wiring Specialities Harness Issues
Hey Everyone,
I have a 97 240sx, with a RB20DET to complete the swap i had bought the brand new RB20DET to S14 harness from Wiring Specialities. So since i am done with school i started getting the swap together, and trying to start the car. So the Number 1 coilpack is getting really hot, no spark and it is unable to start. - Car is getting fuel - Gets spark on NO. 2 CYL ( have not tested rest of them yet ) - CAS is working properly Since i have minimal knowlegde about wiring...i had my friend look over the car and he said that Number 1 coil is getting constant power (tested by volt meter) and NO spark. He said their is some issue with the harness. So it being a brand new harness i am really confused how it could be an issue unless it was messed up when it was made. I had bought the harness last year but i have'nt contacted Wiring Specialites about the issue. Not sure if they can still do anything about it because its been a year since i bought. Any input to why it would cause this to do would be appreciated. I did reasearch but people had DIY Harnesses but knowing this is brand new harness im not sure what to do. |

Try taking out your spark plugs and set them on the valve cover and crank to see if you get good spark on all of them. You can crank or spin the cas by hand to verify spark. Are you getting no power or just like not enough to spin up the motor?

Yury is reasonable and I'm sure he will take care of you if you let him know the problem. Easiest way to do it. You can also check the igniter diagram and see if there is anything mixed up. Could be a 30min job to fix it. I'm about to order my second harness for a new project and never had such a good costumer service

thanks for your feedback guys...i talk to yury at wiring specialisties we were able to fix the heating/spark problem w/ cutting one wire from wiring harness.
now i have spark and fuel in all 6 cylinders but its unable to start. I tried adjusting the CAS but no luck. also tired disconnecting MAF made no difference. Any ideas? im going to try cleaning the MAF with cleaner and also do a compression test. |

Have you put the engine in TDC and checked all the timing marks? I'd start with that to make sure the mechanical timing is good to go. Then restab your CAS in.

Looks like it is Timing, i adjusted the CAS couple times and it almost wants to start, on time it ran for 2-3 sec and died...will be checking timing as soon i find it in FSM! |

New Update:
I pulled off the front timing cover and the valve covers to check if mechanical timing was right. Here is what i found, my intake side is not aligning to the back timing cover markings. Also the Exhaust side is slightly off aswell. This was according to 0* BTDC mark on the crank pulley. HERE are pics to show you guys what i was talking about. I have no clue why the timing is so off. Would thier be any possible engine damage while trying to crank the engine to start the engine? And i would basically have to redo the timing belt on this to fix this issue correct? Thank you all! |

It's hard to tell from those angles but doesn't seem that bad.
Those dimples on the cam gears are your marks not the white lines. Those are probably just someone swapping a timing belt the lazy man way. Long as the mark on the underdrive pulley lines up with the mark on the lower cover and the dimples on each cam gear line up with the mark on the back of the cover should be all good. |

id make sure your plugs are properly gapped and not fouled out
