Dash lights/plugs and a radiator fan
Feel free to roast me, these may seem like some very basic questions...
Ive had my 240 for over a year now and the dash lights have never worked and the heads up display has never worked. I basically gave a working temp gauge, rpm gauge, gas gauge and some of those small lights for like seat belts and the battery and stuff light up. Other than that no lights or speedometer and stuff These plugs have been chillin under my dash for a while and Im starting to think they might have something to do with my issue anybody know what they might go to? I dont know if the previous owner swapped dashes or what... Also my radiator fan shroud exploded the other day and this smaller fan basically doesnt have a place any more (unless i get another shroud) do i need it? thanks for any help/suggestions |

Basically without warning. I took my car out and on the way out of my neighborhood i heard some rubbing from under the hood and next thing i know i hear some plastic breaking and my fan was just sitting in there. I took apart the shroud and it was pretty busted. Just gonna keep an eye on the temp gauge and maybe upgrade to some nice electric fans eventually |

I'm still a baby in the 240 game, bought my '93 SE Coupe in April 2013, yet I think I am learning well enough.
The two plugs from the angle I see, one is the OBD Consult for the ECU, mine is chilln in the kick panel where the fuses are, and the other is just an UNUSED plug. If you look in the FSM of the interior wiring it should match up with a plug that is marked 'unused' or something unless you have a Vert. Don't quote me but I have an unused plug under my dash as well. I have taken my dash apart to get to the cluster many times now. As for you back lights on the cluster.... When I bought my car the previous owner said that the HUD didn't work. So initially when you turn the key before starting it, my lights are lit except GAS and Cruise Control. (My gas light doesn't work period because I have been on at lease 1 gal of gas with no lit warning) and CC I haven't look into a root cause yet... When the car is on, gauge wise my; Gas, Temp, RPM and clock work fine. As for my situation with the HUD... Typical HUD scenario I guess, It only worked when the weather was hot/ inside of the car was hot. <- Because of that if i were to start up my car on a cool night I would have NO Back Lighting or indication of how fast I was going, but all the gauge functions and lighting would work from what I could see. Because the HUD wasn't working my ODOMETER/Trip counter would not spin and After driving a bit I would get a Check engine Light. I had the check engine light and the code spat out a SPEED sensor code. I was advised to replace the speed sensor and that might solve my problem. I never did because OEM speed sensor was $$$ which I'd prefer to have in my car. Basically with a HUD that isn't working -Odometer/trip counter won't work -Speed sensor code -CEL(^) -No cluster Back lighting. MY fix, I was fortunate enough to come across two '92 HUD clusters. One had a FOR SURE working HUD before pulled and the other was "UNSURE". I swapped the HUD unit in the clusters. Basically that solved all the issues I had. The UNSURE cluster looked like someone tried to perform "The Capacitor Fix" because clearly there is a giant can capacitor in it compared to the OEM. Sorry this is lengthy and my seem all over the place but I hope it helps or give you clues to your problem. I might post something up about my cluster later on with pics. |
