I was into all this plasti dip shit until I saw it on an s chassis.... In my opinion any 240 in a matte black looks like shit. Even those lambos look tacky in matte black. Just put the time into a nice paint job and take care of it and it will look great for a long time and outlast any plasti dip job. I know this has bean said already but to make a plasti dip job look even remotely good you have to spend $400-$600 and your going to have to re dip it about every 3 years. Or you could just put that money into a REAL paint job and it will last for many years longer. Just my thoughts.

I do believe someone closed that hood with socket sitting on the strut tower.
Anyway, yeah, plasti-dip always looks like shit.... matte black is okay on most things, but looks like shit on 99% of 240s (especially if you have stickers and shit on it... flat black is for cars that mean business, or else it's ricey as hell), and the rest of those colors are just strange. And it never seems to go on evenly. On the other hand, white satin vinyl looks pretty nice, from what I've seen.... and I assume it's forgiving, like white paint. And you can get the stuff and do it yourself, without having to buy a gun and compressor that will cost more than the whole paint/wrap job. |

Here's my second contribution to the thread that never dies. After a year of gunmetal/pearl plasti-dip, peeled it all over and redone in white/pearl. Keeping it clean w/o a garage is the trick.

I think it's of matter of opinion in each persons eyes. I grew up in a body shop and would never dip my car, roller paint my car(as this was also a fad), or vinyl wrap my car. For some people who have never had nice paint plastidip can be acceptable And look great In their eyes, and probably a lot better than having a 5 tone 240sx. Again, the OP asked how many gallons he would need, not for 12 pages of internet hatred. I find it more annoying seeing primered cars and multi color cars, vs seeing plastidiped car. My coworker just finished his 63 nova Gasser and his car is plastidip. He has around 50k into the entire car, and when he told me he was plastidipping his car I thought he was crazy. Came out decent, I'd perfer real paint but in the end, he's extremely happy with his car and his build and that's all that matters.

High Gloss Topcoat
They've got some new high gloss top coats coming out for those who don't like the matte look. Matte is tough to pull off on most cars that don't have sharp lines anyway.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpwEkHFNbTg Also the chameleon stuff they've been doing is nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXGw-iKzp-o |

Hope this is a good place to post this. What kind of paint would be the best to do something custom like this on similar 3sdm rims? but not on a mini ;-) I know I can get the whole rim colored ordered new - but if I want to paint a section of wheels like that, what brand/product paint do you recommend? Thanks. |

I actually just saw a pdipped car this past weekend. Matt gunmetal grey. From a far it looked clean. Not so much when you get close. Then it looked textured when very close. Could have been the car as it was a 80's throwback but crap i didn't think it should have been so textured. Worth adding that it still was most likely better than the original color.
