Nick's RB25 buildasaurs rex
Hey everyone, So i have been doing a side project for the past couple months and i figured i finally could post up all of my progress so far
I will start with the car! I bought a 1989 240sx with a blown sohc KA. It has around 130k miles the body, It came with a Replica Vertex kit, so I think anyway, a 3'' catback exhaust and a front sturt bar, nothing crazy but for 1000 its a good base. After i picked up the car, i was thinking about what kind of engine i wanted to power this beast. My Daily is a honda prelude, Its a fun car but im kind of tired of the non turbo 4 cylinder thing. I thought about the SR but i wanted to do something different, well not to different. I finally decided on a RB25det. I started shopping around and i was able to pick up the motor and tranny for 1400 dollars shipped to my house. Once the motor came in, i had to slow down with buying parts because i was broke lol but during the time i was broke, My friends and I decided to od some painting, This is what we came up with. The sad part is that, while tearing down the block we found out that my turbo is blown...SAD! but i guess its ok because the stock turbo's are not that efficient anyway Originally i had purchised an stock ecu to run the car, because i never thought i would be able to afford power FC or AEM but i was wrong! Last week i was able to score an amazing deal and got Apexi power FC w/ the commander and a tune already for an rb25 for 700 dollars! it was a pickup of the century! I did not want to take a chance wiring up my own car as it is kind of a pain in the ass, and from what i understand one of the biggest issues with the swap so i got an RB25 pemade harness from wiring specialties for around 550, it was expensive but i didnt care. To replace the blown turbo, i wanted to upgrade, but my budget unfortunately didnt include a turbo so i had to go cheap if i wanted my car to run this year, WHICH I DID lol I know i might get alot of crap but w/e i was able to get a cx racing gt28 for 350 dollars. Some things that i have that i dont have pictures of include Mckinny motor mounts, Godspeed intercooler, Manuel boost controller, 3'' test pipe, Mckinny tongue downpipe, Aluminum radiator with dual slim fans. There are only acouple things that i have to buy, I am picking up a steel drive shaft Monday for 200 bucks, which leaves me with the z32 maf i still need, along with swapping my shell over to standard, Walbrough fuel pump, and i also need an o2 sensor so i have to find one of those. That is what i have so far, let me know if you have any suggestions to my swap im always looking for more info on the project and input as well! thanks again! |

mk. dont forget the adjustable fuel pressure regulator..
just a tip though- dont focus all your time in money into one aspect of the car. with more power comes more speed. your gonna want the brakes and suspension to go with it. not just to have a more well-rounded car but theres safety involved as well. good luck with the build. you had me at rb25. ive got a built neo waiting on me when i get home next month.. |

so this build has been on the back burner for a little bit because of school and work, i really dont have much time. iv been gitting small stuff here and there. I picked up the fuel pump, and other small things.
One major thing i got is 550cc injectors I am itching to get this build done, and if anyone lives in new england they know why lol 80 degree weather for a week straight. More updates to come, only thing left is Innovative wideband and throttle cable. |

This week coming up will be a big week for the RB. Hopefully the car will be running by next week. I moved the car to a local garage thanks to a friend and started to do some of the small things i had planned before we move on to doing the full swap. The basics the next couple days are get the Clutch master cylinder mounted. Paint the bay, and attach a new hatch that was given to me by s-13smitty. Big things happening.
Took off the bumpers just to avoid damage. Just a small interior shot. Dash is mint thankfully Bye Bye hatch! And this is before the work |

This past week has been fun! i have alot done to the car and as i type i am only hours away from first start up! Not without its little hickups here and there. but were getting there.
We ended up turning the car around, Cause who wants to work on a backwards car right? lol We also had to convert the car to standard, which wasnt to hard once i wormed my way under the dashboard with a drill and some determination. we ran the wiring harness through firewall. Then we moved on to the fuel pump which was pretty straight forward as long as you buy the kit. And fuck that o-ring that seals the pump up. it sucks to put back in next we mounted up the Apexi Power FC. And now on to paint! Were one Ja Rule and red ford lightning away from a fast and the furious moment First time that the motor and the transmission have been mounted. And now for the moment of truth. Let me just say the McKinney mounts are sweet! awesome fitment and very easy to use! I would recommend them to anyone looking to do this swap. [IMG][/IMG] And BAM! shes in There is still a lot to do. Mounting of the raidiator. Running of a few oil and coolant lines. Most of the vaccum lines, fuel lines, Mount the intercooler. put the driveshaft in. mount the starter cause we forgot to. Put up the exhaust and see if she starts... Cross my heart she does. |
