Drift has A LOT more to do w/ grip than you think... those guys take grip to the limit, then just a little more. If you've ever been to a track during a drift event rather than seeing what some kids do in a parking lot (although a lot of them are pretty crazy), you'd see that.

Anyway, I thought that giving you my specs earlier up in the posts would at least give you a starting point...

17x9 +20 & 255 tires is NOT going to clear your coilovers w/o a spacer (because of the buldge in the tire - well, maybe not buldge at all depending on tire, but from the stretch of my 225 it barely cleared my coils, so buldge is being used relatively here) or your stock fenders (same reason).

You'll need some wider fenders or pulled fenders, and at minimal 17x9 +15. If you don't mind pulling or have wider fenders, you can run something like a 17x9+10/+12 & fit 255 just fine. Lots of guys on here run that size (both autox & drift guys).

To know the exact offsets you need, you will need to jack your car up (or if you can reach inside w/o jacking it up) & measure the distance from your current tire/rim to the coilover & the distance from your current tire/rim to the fender.

Then from there you can see your own personal clearances. I'd give you an exact #, but I have KTS coilovers, and a lot of coilovers have slightly different clearances (-/+ 5mm or so).

I think the reason why everyone is giving you a hard time is because this information IS available out there. You just have to search a little harder. There is at least one wheel thread I know of. And in the Motorsports section, there's quite a few "what's the largest I can fit in front/back" & "what's your track setup" posts.

Here's one asking about running 285's. And some of the guys in that thread have run 275's, 255's, 245's, and they list some rim setups in there too, you just have to wade thru some conversations/slight off topic stuff, but it's all there:

But seriously, if you can't figure out an idea of what you have to do from that thread & the posts in this thread, I'm not sure if I can help you - a lot of people on this forum don't like spoon feeding you all the info - sometimes you need to do a little work yourself.

255 on 17x9 +35 in front is worthless

1. if you're running 255's, you' probably gonna want coilovers to use that tire effectively
2. if you're running coilovers, +35 won't clear

exactly. you're dealing with different offsets when you talk about coilovers (your megan tracks) versus spring shock (car on the previous page with 17x9+35) what more is there to it?

I have a 17x8, 17x9 +35 f+r setup on my car that I bought with tires already on the wheels. Rear tires are 255/40, front are 215/45. Running a 5mm spacer in the front to ensure coilover clearnace. Rear fenders are rolled a bit on account of the lack of stretched tire rubbing a bit.

what if i still got the 17x9's +35 all the way around with 255/40-17 and then ran a set of 25mm spacers upfront? and if do any spacing to the rear how much?

This thread makes me sad. There are only a couple beacons of hope, and they have come in the form of OptionZero and brokeAs240sx.

Zavala, with all the wheels out there that offer good fitment, why MAKE a set fit? You'll have to add the cost of spacers to the cost of the wheels and all of a sudden a set of wheels that FITS makes a hell of a lot more sense. We also don't care about your "Stage 4 WRX." What is with people and saying "stage (insert number here)" either by itself or followed by "suspension/engine/Honda turbos?" Is it from Gran Turismo? Maybe it's a mod shop wherever you are, or maybe it's a loose collective of UK artists partial to blogging and the iPod.

255/40R17 has a big sidewall. Anything over about 24.8" OD is hard to fit on the front of an S13; think spending time with a mallet on your inner fender and you're on track. If you want to be low, the fitment issues just increase.

Besides, if you're going to run 255s, please run REAL coilovers and as little rubber in the suspension as possible. Otherwise you're just popping Viagra hoping the ladies will notice your tent. The rest of us will point and laugh.

You probably have four-lug, which means you have limited choices... one of which is the FN01R-C. Despite its popularity, it's actually a fairly good-looking wheel and, for a $210-a-pop cast wheel, is decently light. You can get the FN01R-C in 17x9 +20, which is a fairly good size. Of course, there are also a bunch of used wheels out there as well.

Let me finalize this rambling, partially-incoherent waste of my time with a single word complemented by another word: search HARDER.

i'm going to run 235/40 on a 17x9, all the way around stock body s13, little bit of pull and roll and they will fit just fine (relocate harness in the front) and thats it.. maybe a small spacer up front for me because of TEIN HE's but we'll see.. either way i dont see it being a problem and the tire should be wide enough.
