I'm picking between these two decks. The Alpine 7894 and the Eclipse CD5441. Aside from the fact that the Alpine has MP3 (which I actually will not use much), I was just wondering as far as overall sound quality and reliability factors in, which is the better of the two?
And what are your reasons for it?
many have said to go with one brand or another, but no actual reason to back up their arguments. Is there any particular reason? or all just preference?

Thanks.

well, based on your past choices, i'd say you had pretty good luck/experiences with alpine HU's. thats what i voted for anyway.

Thanks, but please make the conclusion based solely on the two decks alone regardless of my past experiences. (actually I had good luck with old eclipse until i crashed my car).

Every Alpine I have owned and Every other person I know that has had a alpine has had problems with is skipping everytime they hit a bump. Even in my nasty soft 89 240sx suspension it skipps. I'd hate to see it in my old KA-T with its stiff ass coilovers. I forget what model I have but its one of the top lines they have. I like the sound quality but the overall quality of Alpines units is not so hot.

do you still have an alpine now? I used to have an older one in my car that I sold to one of my best friends. Rarely skipped unless I hit extreme bumps, but thanks for pointing out the problem.

Buddy of mine has a z32 w/prokits and I've never heard his eclipse deck (2nd or 3rd best model IIRC) skip. The quality is really hard to tell unless you hear each deck on the same speakers. he has every last one of his speakers amped so, the quailty was amazing...dono if thats from the amps or the deck, most likely both.

Edit: I think he had an 80xx model.

I wouldn't pick either. I would go with a premier or one of the new clarions.

I don't like premier or clarion ....so those choices are out of the question. It would help if people can vote between the two I mentioned.,

the eclipse head unit has more features that include built in navigation and voice recognition type things but the style of them is kinda ugly. the alpines are top of the line also with an added navigation and things like that. the one cd player you mentioned with the mp3 is available in a cheaper model without mp3 for like 100 bucks less. and the model you speak of also has this new cd tray that holds the cd differently and is impossible to scratch the cd. if you have any other questions about the alpine you can contact me a [email protected] i work at a car stereo place and know just about everything on eclipse and alpine
