there arent many details available on this swap, but i was mistaken, they merely transplanted the crank from the CA20, utilizing the ca18's block. they said they bored it out a bit, so im assuming they purchased new pistons and rods, and they're using the twin turbo system adapted from a z32 VG30DETT. quite an interesting project.
prehaps you could pick up a ca20 crank and balance it, then mate ca18DET pistons to ca20e rods? will they mate up fine? undergoing a project such as this, it makes sense to just go ahead and get new pistons and rods anyways. when more details finally come out about this swap, it'd be interesting to see someone here do one. thoughts? |

The injectors, fuel pump, and MAF all hit peak at about 220RWHP with the stock management.
Higher rail pressure helps a bit. Beyond this the fuelling will need a good pump, injectors, MAF and an ECU adjustment DO NOT TOUCH A FUEL CUT DEFENDER. FCDs are the enemy of good tuning and a specifically bad idea for the CA18 ecu. BTW I do certainly not agree with Norrises tuning methods. Can you guess why? |

There is about a 5-600 dollar difference between the CA and the SR depending on where you go, the SR's stock crank can handle over 450hp, internals I think will push 450hp (to the wheels mind you) I know the CA is a strong iron block but I can't see it pushing that amount of HP on stock internals.
They are both really nice engines, the only downfall the CA has is it's stateside support, there isn't hardly anybody that gets parts for them yet, starting to have a few but with the amount of people that carry SR parts it's almost a safer bet for the 500 bucks, you get 30hp stock and if you break something it's easier to find. BOTH the RB and the SR were designed off of the CA so you know they did something right when they built that engine, I just wish they had kept it around a bit longer instead of dumping it outright for the SR. |

BoostDynamics is definately right about the support. It is quite hard to find a CA let alone parts for one. Although everyone seems to have an SR swap nowadays. But you do get an extra 25 to 30 hp with the SR. If someone was selling it cheap enough though, I would snatch it up. It really is a good motor but personnally if I don't turbo my KA I am going to go with the SR. Just my .02
