INB4: Ignore the wobbling idle, haven't had a chance to check that yet.

Backstory: So about a week and a half ago, i changed my starter on my S13. The old one had some bad brushes. Everything was dandy the first drive. Every drive since though, i'm getting this awful screech from the starter area. At first i just thought the new was was getting stuck to the flywheel, but i swapped the old one back, and it still happened.

As you can see in the video, if i go really slow, i can push it up to nearly redline and not hear the screech. If i tap the pedal just a little too hard, it goes off. I tested both the old and new starters, and the pinion gear retracts fully in both.

The bouncing idle started near the same time, and it kinda sounds like a sputtering balloon, so i have a really small inkling that there's a pinhole leak, or loose hose causing it.

Any thoughts?

Check the plate between the engine and the transmission. Also, check the gear on the flywheel. Sometimes it does not match and does not return.

Unfortunately i haven't figured it out. Honestly haven't driven it all summer cause i was doing some work on the trans. Gonna be doing a clutch kit sometime this semester in my transmission shop class, so i'll be swapping the flywheel too. When i had the starter off last, the flywheel ring gear was super rusty, and may be damaged.
