Oz 's S14
So I picked up this 96 with an SR swap already and it was running ok, it sputtered at high RPM and ran rich as hell so needless to say I kinda didn't drive it to much and took it easy on it. Found the vacuum line to the boost controller was kinked real bad fixed that and a couple other little things. Did an oil change, new plugs and checked my TPS I took it out for a little spin. It helped with how it ran but still not where it should be so I proceeded to return home . On my way back this old lady turns into my lane while I'm directly next to her and put me over a curb. I must note that I had the car maybe a month. Took another month to get the car back because to insurance company was trying to total her. I finally was able to keep my title and got a check and got her back "as is" so now began to possess to fix her to what she once was. Why the hell do I pay for insurance if they are not going to fix my shi! but that's another story. With the check I got an alignment and new tie rod, sent my wheels out to get repaired and ordered new corner lights. The rest I did myself. While I had her in the shop I added some things that I've been putting off on installing. Now the fun begins
I'm writing this so people can see my setup and what numbers I'm putting down so they can make an informed decision on how they want their build to go or parts that will work. Parts List Engine: Blacktop S13 SR Stock internals Rocker arm stoppers Z32 MAF Apexi power intake GT2860RS Disco potato .64 AR 3" inlet, Bottom mount ISIS IC & piping 3" Freddy Intake Manifold Tubular Exhaust Manifold FiveO 750 injectors ISIS radiator with dual 12' fans ISIS 3" single GT full exhaust Forge BOV off hot side Greddy oil catch can RS-Enthalpy ECU tune by Martin Gauges: AEM Tru boost AEM UEGO A/F gauge Oil pressure Water temp If I didn't mention a part you can assume it's the stock one still installed. After all was said and done I set up a dyno tune from Martin. Initial run was pathetic and confirmed my worse fears. 225hp 218tq and richer than a cheese cake. also my power curve looked like the rocky mountains. Also my knock sensor was screwy and robbing me of power big time. So if your not making the power you should be that could be what's up. Martin fixed that and messed with the A/F ratios and 2nd run and boom 283hp 237tq. Dang. With that said I'm confident that if your set up is in proper working order and you mail in your ECU to Martin that's what you expect to get. Ok 3rd and final run, martin did his magic and I walk out with 303hp 269tq @ 17psi and A/F's are excellent. From 225 to 303. I cannot speak highly enough of Martin, the guy knows his stuff. That is my experience and the car is amazing. For those of you trying to decide on a turbo let me try to explain the best I can. On high way pulls in 5th Boost starts coming on at like 2.5k, At 3k I'm @ 5-7 psi and full 17psi @ 3.5k City driving it freaking rips hard. On the highway you can really tell that its a small turbo. I can still pass people with no problem but I feel it's at its limit. That said this would be an excellent auto cross, or track turbo. Off a dig I would give anyone a run for there money (because of the quick spool, I can launch in boost because of the 255 rubber I got in the rear keeps all the power to the road instead of spinning) till we got up to highway speeds. I would kill a lot of people if there is any sort of turns though. So there you have it. I used to live up north where I didn't really use the highway and all it was is turns and a disco potato would be perfect up there. Down here in FL the only time your going to turn is at a light or highway they have long gradual turns. Its mostly straight. Probably the roads are set up like a grid. Hence why my next move is a gt2871r with some Brand of cams round the 264 size, 11.5-12mm lift but haven't settled on a particular set yet. And switch to stock exhaust manifold with external wastegate(just so happen a buddy has one for me) New power goals is 385-400hp area. But for now I'm happy with the setup. Will add pics a bit later. Any questions on setup just ask. 10-08-2015 Update Been awhile since I've updated. I decided to do a full on rebuild of my motor. I currently have my motor at a machine shop getting it checked, decked, honed, cleaned, ETC... and set up for all new stuff. New parts on hand waiting to go in once the motor comes back as follows: GTX2871R w/v-band tial housing D.O.C. Racing top mount manifold tial 44mm external wastegate tial BOV Wiseco with 9.1-9.25:1 ratio Manley H rods Clevite bearings BC stage2 cams BC Spring & retainers 3 angle valve job and all new gaskets and orings accordingly and supporting parts like oil pick up, water pump, belts etc... I'm excited to see what this can do. This will take awhile to get together and on a dyno but I hope to have it running and have numbers by the end of 2015 Update 01/22/2016 Received my block back from the machine shop finally after a few hang ups. started the assembly process and its going well. I've bought light weight pulleys and new valve cover bolts, mostly dress up stuff that I was gonna replace anyways. Most of my time is going to cleaning the old parts and bolts that are going back on, engine degreaser and wire brush. I should of bought a gasket kit but most of the kits are for stock rebuilds. I have need a bigger intake gasket and different head gasket, I'm v-band so no need for a exhaust gasket. That's just wasted money so I'm getting the gaskets as I need them.
