Sorry to hear that dude...

You should have hired a tech... They could have pulled your old files pretty easily, that is if they would even have to reinstall your os. Anyways, next time, spend the money for a tech.

same stupid shit happened to me like a month ago, the cpu store couldn't even get all my files i wanted to save n put on cd. i lost all my school work, over 1,000 mp3's, all the guitar tabs i had, the hundreds of pictures i took the time to scan onto my cpu, n all that kind of stuff. i was so pissed, i'm just gonna make sure i back my files up now every now n then.

All my home HD's crashed within a 3 month period. All 3 of them. I was kinda pissed so I gave up on the home computer nullshit. Time to get a laptop.

Backup's will save you. But who has time for that.

Same thing happened to me, but my hard driveS broke physically (2 30Gb IBM Deathstar 75gxp ) but lucky for me, i had all my stuff backed up on my other comp.

Oh, and you can also buy a program to recover your data for about $50...a small price to pay if you have valuable data.

that 50 bux is a waste
nothing software will protect other data
cuz ur comp will hafta boot just to run the software, so if u can do that, why not just save al lur other shit too
and if ur hard disk's allocation tables or anything else gets fucked, that software is gonna hav a hard assed time running
its like someone just decided to take a pie-sized chunk outta the middle of ur engine, and then ur gonna hope that ur synth oil and techron is gonna keep u running till u get to a repair shop

If you really want to be safe, and not waste time, just buy a tape backup unit. About 250, and 40 bucks for each tape. The drive will include one tape, and it comes with a backup program.

You put the hard drive in a 2nd computer or load the program onto a other hard drive the same computer and you pull the data off the bad drive onto the good one. Otherwise, where would it put your data? So it would be more like takeing your engine out, throwing it in the back of your truck and take it to a shop
