Tire size predicament 235/40/18 front and 255/40/17 in back? LOL
right now I have shit tires on the front of my car: 225/40/17
decent tires on the back: 235/40/18 here's the problem... I have track day coming up in about 12 days and only have money to replace the front (17") tires. so I was considering putting on 255/40/17 tires on them and temporarily putting the 17s on the rear and the 18s up front. that way 235s are up front, and 255s are in back (granted the back wheel would be the smaller 17" but the height would be about the same). in a few more weeks, I'll replace the other tires on the 18s with 255/35/18s so I have 255 all the way around (time attack/track day). what do you guys think? any suggestions? |

Down grade go for a 15" rim so much sexy sticky rubber buy four new for the price of two 18"
Go functional I would never track 18" 16" cost of wheels is to much |

the fronts would be taller by .19" plus the rear rubbers might deflect or compress more from having more tire and less wheel, causing them to be even "smaller" though again itll only be a small difference.
if youre strapped for cash just buy slightly used tires on cl

He's grip driving it, I'd stay away from used tires on CL. Last thing you'd want are some hard ass used tires in the back...
But my question is, don't know I'm just misreading it but, why do you wanna run 18s up front and 17s in the rear? Also, what width are they? |

^ you can find 'practically new' tires on CL if you look hard enough. most tires i buy have between 60 to 80 tread life left. about 30-60 each, balanced & mounted. i dont track it but you can still find tires with a lot of meat left.
and youre not misreading it.
