Its pretty much done at this point...major brunt of the tsunami is now propogating out. Okinawa (furthest southern islands towards Taiwan) just got hit by a tsunami 30 mins ago. Nothing happened, watching the local news with the live feed they have on the water and nothing. All's quiet down here.

And Okinawa got hit with a whopping 20cm as the official tsunami measurement. If you dont have an idea how tall 20 cm is. Stack 2 cigarette packs and you're almost up to 20cm.

So is Taiwan. Doubt anything is gonna happen to Hawaii, either. Last Tsunami warning that came down, we got 2 ft here in Okinawa and Hawaii got like 20cm.
I'm curious to know if they actually got the Tsunami Warning out to the areas that got affected, specially Sendai. From the videos we saw, I'm thinking not so effectively. I saw way too many folks getting balled over by water as they're trying to escape in their cars. Right now, they're confirming 19 people dead and hundreds missing. I wouldnt be surprised if the total goes over 500 people killed. |

Folks up north are getting double shafted. Tsunami just swept your house away, sun sets and now its snowing with predicted temperature dipping below freezing.

Yeah, my wife is in the Aomori prefecture. Snow still on the ground and no power. She said that she has plenty of blankets on hand just in case the power doesn't come on soon

Well, its now bumped up to 8.8-8.9 earthquake at a depth of 24km (shallow as hell), 150 km from Sendai and this is now officially the strongest recorded earthquake to strike Japan. In retrospect, the this earthquake is rated 100x stronger than the Kobe earthquake. This earthquake is now #7 in intensity in recorded times.
They're saying now that the deathtoll is going to be high. It took the waves 15-20 mins from the time the earthquake happened to strike Sendai. |

My heart goes out to anyone affected by the disaster. And supposedly cali is supposed to get hit with waves at 8am
I was in the loma prieta quake here in '89 and that shit was no joke and it was only a 6.9. I cant imagine the scale of destruction a quake that powerful is going to have on a area as populated at Tokyo. Im glad I already have my SR's

But Jason's wife is in Misawa (further south of Hokkaido and closer to Sendai), if they're fine down there, figured Hokkaido would be okay too. |
