to start now I have to pump gas pedal and itll start turning over faster eventually to start and sound great a few seconds and then just like it drops a cylinder or something and if pedal is blipped on cable return it picks rpms back up to around 1700 until feels like timing falls out and have to play with pedal to wake back up..if a lot of pedal applied at once it stalls immediately

Check your ground wires, clean them all up, make sure none of them are broken under the insulation.

ok so i know that this is not going to be typical of all 240 owners but in my case what caused the problem was that the previous owner had bypassed the clutch switch completely and instead of having the clutch relay next to the battery he'd removed the relay assembly and joined the main wires via a 10 amp fuse. replacing that, it fired up just fine. the only thing now is that i'll have to re-wire the switch back up if i ever want to be free of worrying if the fuse has blown or not :/

I ohmed out the entire engine harness and swapped out 2 other engine harnesses. All 3 have no breaks or short to grounds.

Holy shizz so after that last comment I figured id check my clutch switch anyway and it appears to have had the plug completely cut off..there is a green/red stripe and green/black stripe wire hangin is that for the switch and do I really need it?
