I have a 240sx w/sr20det, for some reason upon hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear in high rpm's between 4-6k rpms. I will feel and hear a humming and vibration. But it won't occur on soft or medium accelerations in any rpm's. It's very annoying, and I know it's not coming from the engine. And I can feel that it's coming from somewhere in the front suspension area. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

got the same issue.. hope someone on here knows... could be heatshield or if you have an ebay exhaust it can be hitting something..

I forgot to mention I have an sr20det. And I'm running an Apexi GT downpipe mated to the stock catback.

Pull your driveshaft and go have it rebalanced. With you stating that it gets worse in the higher rpms, it tells me it's out and needs to be reweighted.

How much would something that like cost? I assume any autoshop would be able to do that?

Driveshaft shop and I would imagine $50-$100 depending on what needs to be done to it.

Look around for a driveline shop in your area. Dont just take it anywhere, it takes special equipment that isnt always common.

I just had my driveshaft fully rebuilt and converted to 1-piece with brand new bigger serviceable U-Joints. Cost me about $200 total. They said that re-balancing the shaft would be about $35 later if I needed it redone down the road.

I replaced mine because of the same humming/vibration, my problem was a bad carrier bearing...

Sounds good, did that shop specialize on 240sx as well. Or it doesn't really matter on the specialty of cars they work on. Just the fact its a driveshaft shop? Thanks

Any Driveline shop or "4x4" shop that does differentials and axles should also do driveshafts. Open up the phone book and start calling.

Before rebalancing your drive shaft, jack your car up and try to move it with your hands to see if theres freeplay.

If there is freeplay then it can be bad U-joints.

Does the noise resemble subwoofer bass?
