The last statistic is the most revealing. The rest just emphasize what's wrong with student loans.

1 out of 2 OWS protesters is below the poverty line so it's totally not about something for free.

Lets throw some basic stuff out there.

1 in 6 americans is on foodstamps.
The average foodstamp benefit is $245/month.
In heavily democratic areas like new york, the ratio becomes 1 in 3.
When you get foodstamps you also get discounted heat, electric, water, and a free cellphone.

Rich or Poor.
I'm tired of subsidizing 1 in 6 americans at the grocery store, in my electric bill, in my water bill, and on my cellphone bill.

If you want more revenue from me the tax payer. Show me you're responsible with what you have now and can be frugal with it before you ask for more. Until you show that, the money tap is off.

That same bottom 50% should also chip in instead of playing the "victim". Want to increase taxes on the rich? they should pay the same rates on themselves as well. "Shared sacrifice". God forbid if the poor in this country pay any income taxes.

Long and the short of it is that the poor never want to pay income taxes and always want something.

This kind of thinking is why the states is in such a bad place right now...

Nobody wants to pay for what they get... ESPECIALLY the people who CAN pay for it.

Stop bitching about taxes and start paying them, and THEN, and ONLY THEN will your situation change

Lets talk about all the people sitting on wellfare / unemployment who are making no effort to get to do anything with their lives, all the while being completely satisfied with that, or even working under the table.

Noone should put the blame on others for their mistakes but i know there are people that just dont like to admit they made a bad decision.

Im not really trying to explain my life story here but i did well in high school, got my first job at 15 through the high schools program where right after school there was work and i was only making 6 an hour because it was the school paying. but i still didnt care i worked my ass off and didnt even really buy my self stuff with the money i just handed my mother the check simply because i feel like i will always be in debt to her for raising me healthy and good heart'ed. i graduated with a diploma, went to collage literally a month out of school and had a minimum wage job but as economy got worse they eventually laid me off.

As a result of that i couldn't afford the gas to drive to college ( 45 mile drive ) and thus creating a chain reaction where i can not aquire enough gas money to even get to college or to the closest job available to make my first check. So now im stuck home applying at another job every single day and i still have not had one call back. So compared to this guy with his explanation of what he does im sure he lives in the city, has a reliable car, and everything is a few minute drive.

Its just not always the same for everybody, sometimes you live in the mountains and you simply can not get out it seems. When most people you know are in the same boat as you, you cant car pool.. you cant get around because of the shortage of money. its just fucked.

With that said, this guy may make it sound like everyone can do something to make a living, but in reality that's not always the case at all. Sometimes your just stuck and you have to keep trying but you might have to wait awhile before something is possible.

*EDIT* also people may question my sig after reading but that was when i had a good paying job, i had money to pay for parts. bills, i was working 48 hours a week at 8.50 an hour and only bills i really had to pay was phone and insurance. so the cars were easy money at the time. but now they both sit and do not get any attention for over a year now sadly.

I saw on some news station today people rallying to pull money from the Banks, because 'banks are corrupt'. People did that back in the 30's, and ended up burning the paper to stay warm being once everyone pulls out of the banks, its worthless paper. These people simply don't understand world economics, and are paranoid. On top of that, they blame everyone else. At least other places in the world have real issues.

^roads, snow removal, some of it may go to community services such as women's shelters, homeless shelters, safe injection sites, police, fire, ambulance services etc.

It varies in each state, much like here in Canada, it varies too. Some of these greedy corporations also assist in funding. My wife is a social worker, and the government is less then 33% of the funding for her work... the rest comes from 'greedy companies'.

Can't they just raise the taxes a few percent on the "1%" or as republicans like to call them "job creators" just so the 99% have one less thing to bitch about.

A lot of people go to school, get some usless ass degree (not saying all of them are useless) and then expect to be able to get a decent job just because they have a degree.

North America needs to get back to actually making stuff, manufacturing creates so many jobs.

It all starts with education, otherwise it's the same old welfare cycle, get knocked up multiple times without having a job then get a few hundred bucks per kid while being a stay at home mom creating more losers and criminals to take and give nothing back.

The tax breaks are on Corporations, not the personal income of the 1% there is a huge difference, and unfortunatly no school teaches tax laws and benefits, otherwise many more of you would be wealthy. Or, at least your company would be.

If you removed the tax breaks on Corporations, the 'little corporations' would suffer too.

The underlying problem is corporate lawyers, and bogus lawsuits in the business world. AKA, why does Shell own the rights to using Lithium Ion Batteries in Cars? So they can sue anyone that tries to build an actual good electric car or negoiate a profit %.

That's when you must ask why the feds are upholding a patent of such readily available tech. Patent and copyright is another area that big business has been aloud to run rampant in.

They way companies get and keep patents and copyrights keeps changing. Why is Mickey Mouse still owned by Disney so many years later? How is it that Shell could even come to own a patent on lithium ion batteries? How do these pharmaceutical giants keep patents for drugs for decades before we finally see a generic form? Why did Apple get to brick Ipods/Iphones for people modifying their own property?

That's not how patent and copyright were intended to be used.

^the flip side is the consumers should also know the difference when they buy something.

"I buy an Iphone because its American"
actually, no it isnt. The logo and design is. You helped increase China's middle class.

I'm one of the few people that builds and buys things local if I can. I'm surprised more people here don't fabricate wastegates, built BOV's, or manifolds in your own garage. But make sure you have a corpoartion if you sell to others, that way you don't get taxed untill after you spend your profits.

kill the unions and adjust some laws

I'm going to survive till i'm in my 90's no matter whats going on in the world. And having fun too. Knowledge is power.

They are talking about taking there money from corporate banks and putting them into local credit unions. At least that is the only situation going on that is worth noting.

The money stopped holding any value when the Fed was made and when Nixon took us off of the gold standard.

A run on the banks doesn't devalue currency. Fractional reserve and no FDIC insurance ruins peoples' faith in it.

That is a terrible misconception. Very very few ceo's make over 50 million yearly. Very few make it for very long either. And most of it is in stock options. You have no control over that and shouldn't want to. I def want to work for a company run by a man worth 20 mil to the board.

Wanna know who's sucking up all the capital? take a good look around, everybody with a jersey and a nascar jacket is fuckin you over bro. Sporting industry pulls down billions in revenue every year. Know how much CC Sabathia signed for this year? Shit lebron got 110 for 6 years. Point is if everyone wasn't fucking sports center brainwashed there would be alot more free capital. 110 million/6yrs divided into 50k/yr pieces is 367 pieces. 367 people could have a middle class job on Lebron's contract.

Forget sports center, It's the whole fanboy mentailty. Name 20 cell phone brands sold in the U.S. oh yeah, you can't. Because if you don't have a Galaxy S2 you're a homo. It is the same with most things in America, that is how these industries can bring down the cahs flow they do. The principal undermines classic economic principals that suggest that we are rational buyers.

The way it should work is:

Hey phone x,y,z is like $500. So another company makes a better phone q for less and that's what drives the market price.

Way it actually works:

mom & dad got me phone x... everyone is fuckin jelly

Why do you think there is as much ad time as play time during superbowl? If we had a lick of sense we wouldn't watch that bullshit. If we don't watch it they can't lure advertisers and everyone will have to get back to just broadcasting the damn game. Then they can't pay players inexorbanant wages and you and I can spend our money on something that actually stimulates the economy and creates jobs.
