From the LA Times:
“Of great importance, the Lakers’ reserves were heavily outscored by the Mavericks’ backups, 40-25. Jason Terry had 15 points, Peja Stojakovic had 10 and Jose Barea had eight. Not the way the Lakers wanted to start another playoff series. But here they are, down a game, just like two weeks ago against New Orleans. They’re not pleased about it, either. ‘We went in the locker room and felt like we gave a game away,’ Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said. Said [Kobe] Bryant: ‘I’m concerned. This team can beat us. It’s clear. We’ve just got to come in ready to play Game 2.’ The Lakers didn’t pound the ball down low very often, Andrew Bynum scoring eight points on three-for-eight shooting and Pau Gasol scoring 15 on five-for-10 shooting. Bryant repeatedly said it wasn’t his fault, pointing instead to the Lakers’ reserves. ‘It had nothing to do with me,’ he said. ‘I’m going to do what I do. I think the second unit, we’ve got to make a conscious effort to get the ball in to Pau and get the ball in to Andrew.’” |

And, Blake Griffin becomes the third ever unanimous Rookie of the Year, after Ralph Sampson and David Robinson before him.

i wont go so far as to say the Lakers are completely done, but it's DAMN close. They're just not hungry anymore. I'm over getting upset over losses. These fuckers don't seem to care anymore so why should I....
With attitudes like that, i'd rather them lose....fuckers. |

how dissapointing to see all those fake laker fans booing, you have to stand by your team no matter what, we lost so what? we have won before, we can still do it again, i dont think dallas can pull a 0-4 on us simply as that.

i'm not giving up on them. What i'm pissed about is the lack of effort. I dont get it. I HATE losing at anything and the fact that these dudes CONTINUOUSLY go out and play like they dont give a damn and just shrug shit off when they lose is mind boggling. If you're gonna lose, fine, but at least give it your all. Fuck, you're getting paid millions for it....
There's just no sense of urgency with them. Ever. What is it gonna take? I dont think Dallas will sweep either, but LA is definitely in a hole. Friday is a MUST WIN. |

yeah shooting was really bad. They're defense was shit too. I don't get why no matter what team they play, their rotations on defense are always frantic. There's always someone wide open for a jumper or a three. Granted, they have stretches when they defense is excellent, but more often then not somebody is frantically running trying to close out on someone shooting an otherwise wide open shot.

Should be a good one in Boston on Saturday, I'm sure Miami takes atleast one in Boston and closes it out in Miami in game 5. Boston is really missing Perk and Tony Allen right now.
L.A has forgotten how to play, their offense is horrible. They remind me of the Heat at the start of the season. All I see is Iso plays instead of running the offense and moving the ball. Glass man Bynum was the only player that was in the zone lastnight and they barely got him the ball. Dallas is the better team but given their track record, I'm not counting L.A out until they get kicked out. But it's looking extremely bad for the supposed 3-peat that I been hearing about all year. What the hell was going on in Ron Ron's head with that stupid foul. L.A needs that headcase and he looks to be suspended for the next game.... |

Lakers in 6. I would be very surprised if Dallas doesn't choke and LA doesn't rise to the occasion.

Miami is looking great though, they're a scary team now that they're clicking.
If I was at the game, I would have booed them too. It's not a matter of being a fake/real fan or not, it's about the Lakers not playing up to their potential. You'd think they would show up after that Game 1 home loss, but they didn't. Fans have every right to do that. The players need to hear it. Here's the play in question. He got suspended due to the fact that he's Ron Artest. |

im a laker fan, but that is a straight up headhunting play by artest. shit he even plowed his own teammate. seems like he only saw red and was set out to hurt someone. it may cost us the series, but the suspension was totally justified.

Ron should not haver been on the floor at that point. Thats Phils fault, this isn't the first time that Ron Ron forgets to take his crazy pills in a blowout. If this Laker team still had Sasha, Jordan and Ariza I would buy the whole not showing up excuse. The truth is, L.A got too cocky and decided they didn't need those guys and went and got people like Blake, Mathew "Woman beater" Barnes and Ron Ron to replace their roleplayers. Much like Boston, Managment is the reason for L.A's problems right now. It's not lack of effort or lack of bringing it. These are the defending champions, it doesn't make sense to make these excueses anymore. The problem is that L.A is not the best team in this series. The only hope L.A has is that Dallas turns out to be the pretenders they have been for years. I said it before the playoffs, all this "Turn on the switch" crap that people are talking about no longer exists with the Lakers. They can't compete with these teams like they could last season. L.A needs to play inside out basketball. Glass man has the biggest mismatch on the floor, no one in Dallas can stick him, yet all I see is Kobe running Iso plays, to finish with a retarded 30ft 3 pointer. Thats not going to cut it against Dallas, they're too deep. Hell I don't want Miami to meet them in the finals, we don't match up well with them.

The problem IS lack of effort and focus. There is no sense of urgency in their play, there is no energy, there is no focus. When the Lakers are playing like they should (i.e. that stetch of winning 17 out of 18 games after the all star break) they're nearly unstoppable and can very well compete with ANY team in the league. Saying that isn't true clearly shows your bias. However, when there is no focus, no heart and no hustle, things go wrong,....very wrong. As of late, things have gotten even worse because for whatever reason, the Lakers are content with playing like shit and its bitting them in the ass and could very well cost them an early exit from the playoffs. Do i think this "turning it on and off" mentality THEY seem to have in games is aggravating? You're damn right i do. Teams are better now and they need to play "on" all the time. When they do, they're just as good as anybody. The thing is, you seem to think that Lakers can't compete at all anymore and that just simply isn't true. It's not making excuses. It's calling it what it is. |

Odom 8.2M This year, sure he asked a high number but L.A could have brought him down. They were just okay with going after Ron to replace him which at the time seemed like a good idea (To L.A.). Ariza looked real good in the first round against L.A this year too. Sure Farmar wanted to start but I am sure L.A could have talked into coming off the bench again, if they really wanted to but Blake was on his way in. Sasha although inconsistant provided much more then Barnes has all season. You have Phil Jackson "The Zen Master" on the team, I'm sure he could have made it happen, if he wanted to. I'm also not being bias, I'm being realistic. I'm looking at it from the outside, not from a fans perspective. I like many others picked L.A to be up 2-0 by now in this series. The problem is that NO ONE can stop Dirk on the Lakers squad. Sure you can put Odom on him but that doesn't work too well when Dirk takes that high release, off balanced, fadaway off of one foot. I'm not saying that L.A can't compete, what I'm saying is that Dallas is the better team, to deny that IS being bias. Dallas has a better bench and from what everyone including L.A writers are saying the best player in the series. It's not to say that Kobe isn't better then Dirk but Dirk is clearly outplaying Kobe, Star vs Star. L.A losing 2 at home has nothing to do with reasons, other than they are playing a better team. These are the 2 time defending champs, do you really believe that now is the time for them to being having all these issues? This reminds me of the exucses I heard about Miami beating them on Xmas and then when L.A was on that big run. All this "they're just waiting for the playoffs to turn on the switch" crap. The playoffs are here and L.A isn't getting it done because they are being outplayed. Who knows maybe Bynum is right and the lack of trust is killing them. Hell it has before but I refuse to believe for one second 90 games into the season that L.A forgot what they're here for. Lacking focus when you're at home makes no sense from a veteran team like this. If L.A's problems really are what you claim them to be 90 games into this year, then they don't deserve to be here and should just drop the next 2 and go home. Lets face it, L.A has not been building championship habits all season and now it's biting them in the butt. The problems that L.A has been having since the first round have been there all season, if they have not fixed them by now, I don't think they will fix them before this series is over. Either way, I am still not counting L.A out like I stated before but they are playing a better team and need to change their gameplan a bit to win. Hell Glassman was 8-11 lastnight and a few of those were putbacks. There is no excuse not to exploit a mismatch like that in the middle. Bynum should have got 20+ touches lastnight, since the rest of the team was in Alaska somewhere taking 3 pointers from a igloo. |

^To argue about Ariza, Farmar and Sasha is pointless. They have enough to win now. They've done it before with their current cast. I agree with the rest....

Although I desprately want the Heat to meet the Bulls in the ECF. I don't think the Bulls will make it there. As long as this Hawks team plays team ball like they did against Orlando and game 1 of this series, the Bulls have zero chance to win. Atlanta tends to fall inlove with stupid shots, the main person that does this is Josh Smith. If he starts playing inside ball instead of taking 3's (28% from 3 point land) they should be fine. Either way, I want the Heat to get the chance to crush the Bulls now that they're clicking, so here is the hoping they find a way to beat Atlanta.
Tonights L.A vs Dallas game should be a good one. Lamar is set to start at SF for Ron Ron. I expect L.A to go to Bynum alot more inside and to provide him with more help defense when he rolls to help defend the penetrating guard that Derrek Fisher and Steve Blake let loose. I also hope not to see 20+ 3 pointers from L.A seeing how they're not a good 3 point shooting team. Oh and someone needs to tell Kobe to drive and kick alot more there is no excuse for him to be averaging 1.5 assists per game in this series. |

Well L.A played much better team ball tonight but they still lost. This pretty much means that L.A is on their way out. They have a 2% chance at coming back from a 3-0 lead and the next game is in Dallas. I don't see it happening, when crunch time came they looked confused because of all the weapons on the floor. Dirk went killmode and it was all over. Kobe tried his best to takeover but like I said before, he's no longer that Kobe and can't do it alone anymore. All and all it was a fun game to watch. I wonder what moves L.A will be looking to make after the new CBA is signed?
Oh and LOL at all the Hawks fans yelling at Josh Smith whenever he caught the ball outside of the paint. It's sad but the kid doesn't get it, he's not a jump shooter and is killing his teams momentum with all those bad jumpers. Next game should be a good one. Jeff Teague is going to be a great player if ATL actually lets him get in the rotation. |

Well Miami got outplayed tonight, there is no other way to put it. Chris Bosh was no where to be seen the whole game and he made KG look like KG of 10 years ago. I expect Miami to come in on Monday and punch Boston in the mouth and keep punching until the end of the game. Joel Anthony and Rio both played awesome. Chris Bosh seemed angry in the postgame podium so lets see if he takes that anger with him into Monday's game. Although I hate Rondos guts, I got a alot of respect for the guy coming right back into the game after his elbow went the wrong way. I am also not happy that Spo didn't tell people to attack and trap Rondo since he only had 1 arm for the whole 4th qtr. Oh well, it's 2-1 and should be 3-1 coming home on Wenesday to close it out.
Oh and Memphis played their heart out tonight, glad they won their game. They are living up to my sleeper pick in an awesome way. I wish the Heat would have signed Tony Allen in the offseason that guy is great in Memphis. |
