I really don't like doing things for lazy people... I know what I know by researching stuff. Then, I know everything. Someone else wants to know what I know. And they don't research, and want me to tell them. So I have to scour the net for a while to find a pic of something I have no intention of looking at to help a fellow 240sx owner be lazy.
With that said and done.. you are lucky this browser window is up. Go here: http://www.silvia.hl.com.au/gallery.asp And when I say 1st pic, top row... it is the first pic FROM THE LEFT. 1st pic, top- s15 silvia. Crunched 4th pic, top- NICE s15 silvia. Not sold here. http://www.umr.edu/~bmd/240sx/ (might have to click the 240sx link) or http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~asad/240sx.html Those are s13 models http://moe.cc.emory.edu/~rbryant/cars/96240sx.html and the pic under all posts by "West" are s14 models. The s14a model has smoewhat different headlights and hood lines... like the second pic on this site: http://www.iflyaerobatics.com/kingsimportgar/240SX.htm -Jeff |

OK, here's my discriptive interpretation:
s13: Looks badass, slick lines, popup headlights, wide looking chassis. Coupe looks a little too Sentra like from the side or back. '91 to '94 models have a sleeker front end with big air #### under the front bumper, before that there were nostrils above the bumper s14: Smooth looking. A bit too sedan-like from the front, but good from the sides and back s14a: "angrier" front end and sharper rear end. Headlights swoop in lower towards the middle. Which one you buy would depend on how much money you have. s13's look good and are pretty cheap. s14 has a bit stronger engine (if yer gonna turbo), though a cooshier suspension, and (at least in my opinion) don't look as good. s14a is just badass. |

I kinda have to agree with Jeff about the laziness thing...especially when pics of every generation and bodystyle are displayed in the Gallery link on the front page of this site.
But... '89-90 S13 Fastback '89-90 S13 Coupe '91-'93 S13 Fastback w/ different front bumper '91-'93 S13 Coupe w/ different front bumper ?-'94 S13 Convertible '95-'96 S14a Coupe '97-'98 S14b Coupe w/ slightly different head/tail lights '99+ S15 not available in US |

I always thought '95-'96 was S14a and '97-'98 was S14b. But I guess it could be '95-'96/S14 and '97-'98/S14a. Somebody that knows want to clear this up?

it's 95-96 is s14. And 97-98 is s14a
West will disagree and start typing Japanese... -Jeff |

Since the chassis for the 97-8 model is the same, there is no unique designation. From what I have seen, Japanese aero companies seem to refer to it as S14 and S14MC (model change?) or "shark face/eye." I've heard that "S14a" was cooked up some years ago by the vetrans at 240sx.org and gained popularity here in the US. I've never seen a Japanese site refer to an "S14a." *edit* but I recall seeing it on Australian sites (maybe it is a new number in the chassis code(?) - anyway... it's the later one *edit* ...Just passing along what I've seen...
