$1200 for a windshield
Ok so most of yall know i hit a deer the other day. I am just now tieing up all my loose ends on fixing it. Headlights and fenders are on the way, and front bumper and hood are sitting @ a friends house.
so i peiced everything together for less than $900 shipped. all i had left is the windshield. I called the local auto glass shop and told them i have a coupe with HUD. they then told me it would cost $1200 for the HUD windshield and $125 to install. i bout had a heart attack. but then, out of curiosity i asked how much for the windshield off of a hatchback. she looked in the comp and it ended up being only $180 installed. wow, what a crock! 1200 for the HUD windshield. i still wanna keep my HUD. i've heard you can get the windshield tinted in that spot. does anyone know any details about it. has anyone here done it. do yall know what type of tint it would need to be. i figure i can ask the tinting place tommarrow, but wanted to see if anyone had any tips. thanx -dave |

Look under Defi products for the windsheild HUD reflector. 990 Yen. (less than $10) shipping is $14, iirc |

Goto a junkyard!!! Or... Hell...you probably could even spray some sort of reflective spray tint in that area on the non-HUD glass peice. I would just get whatever you can cheap for now, then later on when someone on the board is parting out their HUD coupe, make an offer for the windshield. -m

HUD windshield is dumb. I have the HUD installed and running on my hatch, still no tints on the glass or anything. It shows up on the window with out it. It is very bright at night, and easily visible at dusk or dawn. Only time I have problems is if the sun is shining on my window, and that doenst happen much.
Just get the non HUD window, and if you want to see the numbers better tint it. Any window tint should work, or just putting anything on the outside of the glass will make it mirror like. Just don't tint the inside.

Coas...kevin and I got a replacment reflector for my windsield, same size IIRC as the stock, just aftermarket. Go get a windshield for 150 bucks then the takakaira replacement and bam, you got your hud set up again...
I thought the same thing as you did when I found out it was 1200 buck for the replacment window....blllaahhhhh

Tint the INSIDE with like a 35% mirror tint. If he tints the outside, the windshield wipers will eventually rip it off. However if I were you, I'd get the replacement from takakaira.

Performance Parts > Defi > Hmmm wtf. shoulda been under Sports VSD.
Looks like they're no longer carrying it. Well, the part # is 16982, description is 'Display Film (80X100mm)' price was 1000 yen. Send them an email asking if they still stock it or what... |
