I would look to see if Sony offers some sort of warranty, before trying to fix it yourself, which can usually void any warranty that is offered.

same thing happened to me i woke up to enjoy some cod to turn on my ps3 and find out that i have the ylod, this happened about 3 months ago. i quickly jumped on craigslist found someone that fixes ps3's and he did it for 75 bucks. I was gonna send it in to sony but my warranty ended so i didnt want to pay 150 bucks to wait 3 months for a referbished system. Since the craigslist fix my system has been working perfectly. I was going to attempt the youtube fix but that was way to gnarly for me, you have to completely tear down the ps3 to the motherboard and i dont trust my self with a $400 system =]

interesting, this is the first time I've heard of this. Seems to be on the launch systems so far.

I watched the vid and that looks very intense. If that happened to me, I would just backup the HDD and wait for the slim PS3 to come out and get that.

I thought Sony fixed these for free. They send you a cardboard coffin, and wait 3 months for a rebuild one to show up.

Call Sony up.

It's really rare for Sony ps3's to mess up. Of course MS extended the warranty, they knew that it was fucked up before it was even released.

It only happens to 1% of their systems, so it's pretty rare... still sucks though.
