I think my issue is the timing. Luckily a friend is letting me borrow his timing light Monday so I'll get it set correctly then.

OK I haven't updated for a while so here's where I'm at.

I think the reason it won't start is because my timing has jumped a tooth or two. So Night drift89 and I are pulling the engine out tomorrow for timing work, a cleaning, and hopefully headers installation. I'm going to see if I can just get the stock VH headers to work somehow. I've heard if you disconnect the steering joint in the bay, drop the engine in, and reconnect it, they'll fit. We'll see soon I guess.

I also don't have power steering, so I ordered the VH-S13 power steering kit from Mazworx tonight.

Here are some pictures of what I've been doing:

Engine was dirty....

Reeeallllyy dirty:

So I started cleaning up a bit...I'll get more done when it's out of the car:

I also made a bumper support in my welding class for fun:

Car looks like its coming along nicely. Make sure you bolt that bash bar on and not weld it as well. Keep up the good progress dude.

Thanks!
And yep it'll be bolted on, I'm fabricating brackets that it will slide into, with a pin so I can easily remove it if need be.

Also, I got some wiring heat shield from PerformanceVH, I'll be using it on my starter/transmission wiring near the passenger side header, check it out:

was it actually jumped timing causing it not to start? or was it wiring (did not go back to see how you did your wiring or if you had it done for you)?

Looking good Cole!

I apologize for not being able to get back to you via email as quick as I would have liked. Looks like you have troubleshooted that starting issue pretty well since the next thing I was gonna suggest was to check your timing. I surely hope that is the only thing preventing it from starting because I have rattled my brain and did a lot of searching with no other ideas as to what it could be. I sure hope you get everything squared away soon. Cant wait to see this thing running!

No problem Marvin. I'm also excited to see it running!

I got the timing chains set correctly with the help of a mechanically inclined friend

I've seen where guys will remove their steering shaft/knuckle, put the stock VH headers on, drop it in the car and put the steering shaft back in and it fits good, so that's what I'm going to attempt to do. $650 for a pair of headers is outrageous so I'm going to find a way to use these one way or another, whether I have to heat em up and bend em or whatever it takes!

So, I ripped all of the nasty heat shield metal off of the headers and painted them:

I got a bunch of stuff done today!

Timing covers, crank pulley, headers, and valve covers are back on.

How she sits now:

Driver's side header on:

Passenger side header on:

I also got my Mazworx VH power steering setup in, waiting to be hooked together!

My oil pan had a big ole drip leak coming from near the drain plug. Turns out it had impacted something (dat stance tho) and cracked. So I got it all sanded up and she's sitting with some JB weld on right now:

lookslikeitjustcameouttathefactory.jpg

Should be able to drop it back in the car this weekend. Then we'll see how the headers fit.

Also, I am in love with this album...

So I got the engine in....kind of.

It fits in the frame rails but the 4th runner is in the way of the steering knuckle. I think I might just end up cutting them off, and welding some new pipe in with a 3" collector and run them all on the outside of the steering knuckle.

I need your guys' help! Since I've removed my spoiler I'm going to paint the car. I want you guys to choose the color for me!

My dad does painting do I can do it relatively cheap. I really want to do black but sanding and getting imperfections out would be a pain in the ass. Other than black, I've got it narrowed down to:

White
Some kind of teal
OD green (tactical look)
Light Blue???
Red
Dad suggested Hugger Orange [He's an old school Chevy guy]
Silver of some kind

I would love to two tone it, but it wasn't two tone from the factory and that is sacrilegious.

One of the most beautiful s13's in the world is Nigel Petrie's:

No harm being done since you plan on repainting it a different color than its original paint code anyway.

Nothing wrong with two tone on a non factory two tone car... Just don't go around claiming it is factory.

Dude. Light blue. Rad chrome wheels. Body vinyl. Then come to Brainerd and we can go streeting and take cool pictures of our cars together and we'll be Instagram stars.

But really. Light blue Silvias make me happy.

I'm doing the swap on my s14 soon, so just wondering if you used the stock vh ecu? and is the mazwork swap kit worth the money? as far as the engine mounts go. and if you used the stock s chassis clutch master cylinder? great work on the swap btw! looks great, can't wait to get the ball rolling on mine.
