ka24det vs ls1 for daily
alright guys im face with a dilemma here hopefully you guys can help me out in deciding, of course there are alot of motor swaps for the 240/200/180 from the rb's, sr's, ls's and so on and out of all the motor swaps/builds i finally narrowed it down to either a ka24det, ka24der, or a ls swap, im not asking to see which is more powerful vs the other or which would beat the other in a race there tons of threads for that as well. im asking to see which one would be better to invest my time and money into? and not only for short term but for long term as well

You're talking about spending a couple thousand vs spending like 15k....
Why wouldn't you just buy a car that is a reliable daily driver if thats what your concern is?

15k ive heard a legit ls swap done right goes for around 10k+ but i have some friends that know some friends and could save me several thousand in the process of getting and rebuilding a ls....but your saying money/fund wise the ka would be better?

I suppose this is really a matter of what your goals for the car are. If funds aren't really an issue then all three would be viable. It's just that if you are looking to make 240 whp than the supercharger is nice in it's self contained simplicity but then you are going to have to worry about heat management. The KA-T is a proven combo and is nice because you can intercool it so intake temps aren't as much of a concern and I would say that 300 whp could be made reliably w/o spending too much on your build as that's about the safe limit of the stock transmission. The most expensive choice is by far the LS. I've researched it pretty thoroughly about a year ago and is the way I personally want to go on my own project Silvia. I would say it has more room to grow in the long run as far as RELIABLY making hp being it was rated at 350 flywheel bone stock. It has the transmission that can handle the abuse and the low end torque that it makes is really nice for drivablity. But you do have to be more concerned about ground clearance as the headers are going to stick about an 1" below the frame rails and the complexity of everything that goes into an exotic swap like this isn't for the faint of heart. Do keep in mind that the farther you modify something passed where it was originally designed to operate the more weak links you are going to find and the more parts you will need to invest in to keep it together.
This is just my 2 cents and I'm sure that you'll get a different response from everyone you talk to, but whatever you chose just make sure you do it right by using quality parts and don't skimp on the maintenance. Then you won't have to be constantly tearing it back down and doing things over by rushing through it. Hope this helps. |

LS truck motor would be the best for a daily but you should give up on the idea of race/daily car. If you have a real job like most of us you can't afford to even have 1 work day of downtime.
Your life will be alot easier if you just buy a cheap daily 3-5kish and build your car on the side. |

You definitely want to keep a stock daily. I have a Subaru impreza rs coupe and there is no way that thing is going to be swapped anytime soon.
Finish one car completely and keep a good condition daily driver and don't mess with it. I would just pick up a corolla or accord, then make a speadsheet with all the costs and then decide |

If you can afford an LS1 swap, then you can afford a second inexpensive car as a daily. It's really the only way to go. Otherwise I would personally stick with a stock KA and focus on other mods until you have a second car.
