That's not an age issue, that's a desire to 'keep up with the joneses.'

i wanted a GTR for a long time... but the cost and annoyance in maintenance would be a pain in the ass!!! youd be spending a lot of time on YAJ or Crooober to hunt down those annoying to find bits.
S15, not so much given SR parts are a dime a dozen in the US and a lot of S14 parts are cross compatible with S15. |

Just be prepared to see every engine under the sun in the engine compartment of a R now that they're obtainable. Blasphemy is definitely in my wheelhouse, though. I have a R32 GTS-T that has a complete S14 rear end, complete S13 front end, BN on order and a 1J waiting for the day the RB blows up. I'd do the swap now but I feel bad that the thing runs so smooth - just SUPER underpowered. If it doesn't pop, that swap will be for sale this winter. |

I've never driven one, but I imagine an r-chassis GTR feeling like a pig. My IS300 felt heavy and I can only imagine what another few hundred pounds feels like with the extra diff, axles, transfer case, turbos, awd trans, etc.
The evo9 I have doesn't feel all that heavy even though it's probably in the 3400lb range. |

The EVO VIII and IX are much lighter than it's big brother X. I had a X and hated it. I still have it but shit, it feels MUCH bigger but the ride is so amazing that I don't care.

And fuck no. Those are still in the forbidden fruit/exotic realm. 99.9% of people in the US don?t even know that is. And we?ve all been essentially hoping for a car that is comparable to the S15 for for 15 years now. But honestly by the time those are legal here the prices are going to be stupid and it?ll be dumb to buy one over a Caymen or Z06 for the same price.

Shit, stock 04-07 STI's with 40k-60k miles are selling for $25K-$33K, also...
From what I've read, stock/ low milage 04-07 STI's in WRB with Gold factory rims are going to be worth a lot in the future. |

here's one evo 9 apparently selling for $50k for 51k miles. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing had your friend held on to his evo and kept the miles low for 20 years more that could have been his retirement funds right there. |

You can drive whatever as long as your taste isn't dogshit and faddish. I'll say it here, and only here, buy my cars have been 'OEM+' forever, I was running 16" wheels on my S13s before the 'oh fucc smol wheels bro' hype, and I've been running 17" squared wheels on my SpecRs since I got them. Little wheels became a thing, more people are looking to buy OEM cars, and I'll be damned if I don't see at least three big-name clout chasers on IG preaching about how squared set ups are the way to go...like it's some holy revelation. Do I get some small personal joy out of this? Sure. I'm only human. They're not copying me, but I could give a shit less. It's what I like to see. S15s are cool. Don't think for one second they aren't a typical SChassis, but they have definitely scratched the itch enough that I let go of both my S13s finally. I always wanted an S13 as my 'cool guy old car' to cruise on the weekends, but being in Japan isn't conducive to having all these cars waiting for 'that one day' that might never come. Speaking of 'growing up'...also I just scooped a 13yr-old Lexus GS430. If you haven't experienced a 13yr-old Lexus yet, don't wait. Makes you feel better about your lowered, pain-in-the-ass cars. Like you're 'adulting'...

There is no difference between the last the s chassis cars but aesthetic. These cars are capable rwd coupes that are almost infinitely moldable. None of us bought one for turn key performance.
Is a 911 a higher level of performance? Sure. Is the price difference spent on an s chassis going to be a faster car? You bet your fucking ass. The question isn't about age or maturity but your stomach for building. I cannot wait to build my s13 now that I can daily the BRZ with zero concern. Restomod KA-T grip build here I come. Obviously that means I could have bought a Mustang GT or something more expensive than a used BRZ, but that "better" or "cooler" car isn't what I want in a car or experience of ownership.

There is not anything mature about a luxury car just as there's nothing immature about any other choice. I guess I've grown up around friends and family who drive luxury cars and don't really see what the big deal is.
I get that when one gets older, get more caught up with work, family there's less time for projects. maybe stiff suspensions are harder on the body. maybe you have a bossy partner who gives you hell for not doing things their way. otherwise it's a passion like any other. |
