Well, i was on the can and decided to browse my hyperrev mag just for the hell of it and was looking for spark plugs, when i came across an engine bay of an s14 that looked just a little bit odd. It had a 1jz-gte with vvt-i in it. I was thinking why not a 2jz-gte motor in there? I know someone has done it i saw it somewhere but cannot recall where.
I did use the search function by the way. So my question is this, what sorta of weight/ custom issues would you have to compensate for with a 2jz-gte and then also the other question, which do you think is better motor ? rb25det or a 2jz-gte ? Also, weight issues between the two? Electrical issues? I think the swap would be so much easier keeping it nissan... off hand...? I love the skyline but i respect the supra because I think it can take more hp before upgrading internals etc...plus i just think about toyotas reliability, they seem to be slightly ahead of nissans from my person experiences and word of mouth. This is just a stupid thought at 5:55 am in the morning after the runs with my sr20de'ed s13.... |

ok well i cant really answer your questions but. I recently have been surrounded by supras(i dont own one
) and i know that dropping a 2jz engine the 240 is going to be very expensive. First the engine will cost you a good amount and then installing it will. If done right the 2jz engine is a beast. I have seen TT Supras rip up the track. |

yeah you could buy a stock 2jz or mod your nissan engine to way more HP for the same price...
there is some company online that tried sr20, then rb engines, and now swaps j2z's that make 1000 hp or so. its cool, if youre into that. |

Hmmm Ceramic coated internals... 2JZ are the engine to own... in a Toyota.

I am pretty sure there are lots of Skylines putting out a 1000hp on the stock internals without a hitch. You can talk to several people who have pondered this swap too. I believe Curtis at "Maxrev Motorsports" has pondered it among other things, he used to have a triple t3/t4 2jz engine! www.maxrev.com His site sucks so if your interested just call thenumber and if he doesnt answer call back in a few days. The guy doesnt like to work alot.

There aren't any RB26s putting out 1000 hp without a hitch. RB can only sustain 700-800HP for short periods, good for brief runs or drag. The 2JZ is a beefier motor, it does not rev as high due to a longer stroke but it is beefier than the rb26.
Japanese tuning philosphy is quite conservative so anything more than 500 for means built engine. The rb26 is a smaller and lighter motor less internal strength. The 2JZ is beefier and heavier and is cheaper route to go for an 800HP car. |

I dont deny that Toyotas are strong engines, i used to have a 03 Tacoma and christian rado uses that very motor in his drag car. It could handle 1000hp on the stock bottom end according to him. I am having my australia friend check out what the highest hp rating was for a stock rb26. I dont doubt your numbers but it just seems to me that there was someone out there who did it.

With conservative tuning, both the RB26 and 2jz-gte can make wicked power somewhat reliably. The newest Turbo mag shows SP Engineering's stock skyline motor putting 710whp down with stock head, cams, pistons, rods and crank with a T51 turbo. I am not sure if they put a HG in it. Peter Blach put down 958rwhp at Tx2k3 on a stock bottom end but with a built head and HG (I saw and heard it myself, and it was wicked. There are a few 700+rwhp Supras running around on stock motors, top to bottom. Both motors will cost about the same to get ahold of, but the Supra tranny is stronger.
http://www.turbomagazine.com/toc/ http://www.to4r.com/members/peterblach.html Good luck with whatever you decide to do. There is a lot of tuning knowledge out there for both motors. And with enough $, you can put any motor in any car.

![]() As for me, if I had the money to do either one of those swaps, the RB26DETT or 2JZ, I would go RB26. I think it would be cool to >make< the AWD tranny work and see how it would do on an S chasis. Last edited by GlacierFreeze; 11-24-2003 at 09:22 AM.. |

With either the rb25 or the 2jz, you will ahve a fair deal of custom work, can't say which would be more difficult. An rb26 will be more difficult, as it's coupled with an awd transmission. You'd either need to adapt that drivetrain, or get use another one (as I recall, an rb25 tranny will work). I don't know of anyone that has built an s-chassis car with awd.

Sound Performance in Bloomingdale IL around the block from my house and they hold the world record for stock bottom end Supra which was 980rwhp thru a automatic tranny. This car is daily driven. They are running around with a few 1400hp supras. They also have an H1 Hummer with a 572 big block, twin turbo'd running on a Haltec blah blah blah, 1500rwhp with the front axles removed. Runs 12's.

This may sound stupid to you all, but I'm pretty new to 240sx's. I know that RB26's and 2JZ-GTE's are both inline 6's, but isn't the 2JZ really really long? I mean, just look at the front end of a Supra, then compare it to that of a 240sx...it pretty much dwarfs the 240. For some reason that comes to mind. Has anyone actually DONE the 2JZ-GTE swap into a 240 before? That would be a badass swap.

Camaro's have really long front ends, and over 1/2 of them have a small v-6 in there. 300zx's have long front ends, and I'd say the vg30e is shorter than a KA. Don't believe looks. -Jeff

The Blitz Skyline makes over 850 whp. There are several RB26s that make close to 1000. I don't know of any with stock internals that make over 1000. The ones over 1000 bore/stroke the motor to a 3.1L. There are RB30det's that produce over 1000hp on stock internals. Check out this site |

I'm really not being sarcastic. I've worked on the 7mgte I-6, but I've only seen one 2jz motor personally, and it had 2 intake manifolds, 2 filters, ect. so I really believed that it was a v-6. Now that nobody knows what I'm talking about, I'm guessing it was pretty modified. And I don't quite know why I'd think the supra would go from mk2 I6 to an mk3 v6...
Bete - Kiss my ass. I'm on a Nissan board because I know about Nissans. If I was 2jz guru, I'd be on supraforums.com.. It really is bad when before correcting someone you say "Not to be an ass" because it isnt necessary Halo, you were just correcting me. Sad people get hurt feelings over bieng corrected.. I like it, in a constructive criticizm sort-of way. If I wanted to be right all the time and waste my life, I'd google everything I was about to say before-hand.. but where's the fun in that. Bete on the other hand... -Jeff

Jeff:
All is good. I had no intention to hurt anyone neither to piss anyone off. I never got to see a 2jz in person, but my GF has an MK3 supra and she's been keeping very informed on possible engine swaps. That is why I know about the 2jz. I felt the obligation to say "not to be an ass" because some people here don't like to be corrected. And since you've been here for quite a while, I felt that I owed you some respect, even if you were wrong. Next time, if I get to correct you, I'll take that statement out. No bad intentions. You're a good guy Jeff As for twin intake, it's possible if the guy converter to true TT setup. A 2JZ is a sequential twin turbo in its stock form. When converted to TT, 2 filters may be required.

alright first of all think about if you are actually gonna invest so much cash to make the motor run about 1000hp...if not then wats the point of swaping a 2jz if u could put out high numbers with an sr for about the same price as just swaping the 2jz, its really not worth it unless u have cash up ur ass!! if you really wanted to u could prolly pull off about 1000hp out of an sr...it would only cost quite a bit....

The 2jz responds really well to power mods, and there are many sites that will make 600-900rwhp for relatively cheap (less than what I have in my KA-T). I really like the rb26 itea in a 240, but for me to be able to justify the cost of spending 6k on a clip when I can get a proven 2jz installed for a little more than that price, that AWD transmission better be installed in my 240sx! Unstable-Hybrids guesses about 12-14k to make an AWD rb26det 240sx. -Jeff -Jeff
