Ok guys.... I'm installing my new spl adjusatble tie rods. I'm starting on the driver's side and i already have a potential problem.

I removed the old one. Then (per instructions) i assembled the NEW SPL tie rods to match the size of the old one. When assembled to match the previous lenght, there is only 1/4 of an inch of threads to screw the rod end on to.

It doesnt seem safe to me to have ONLY 1/4 inch(i measured it) of threads to screw the rod end onto. I am almost thinking it would be safer to use the oem rods and ends, versus having a minimal contact between toe tie rod and end.

btw- the left and right spl rods are identical...is that the way it should be? Or is one longer than the other? Once I remove the drivers side i suppose i'll answer my own question about that...

I know SPL makes 2 different size rods for s13 vs s14 (and for z32 rods)

Dumb question, did you get the right one? (no, 1/4 inch doesn't sound safe to me either)

Edit: I mean there one for S13/S14 with S14 rods, and a longer version for z32 rods on S13/S14... original wasn't really clear

I think you should call SPL Parts directly first and consult with them before you make a negative sounding thread title.

I am sure they are more than happy to give you tech support and they know their suspension.

you must be doing something wrong. I installed a set on a firends car and they went on perfect. Pics or email SPL parts. Everything they sell is good, so this thread is wrong.

EDIT:^ they wouldnt work at all if that was the case...

I have to agree with everyone that SPL is a good company. I've had no flaws with Kuah or the products. You should always contact the seller before making such threads, which can hurt his business.

You are putting it together as a whole, right? The outer tie rod is an assembly consisting of a hexagonal threaded sleeve, jam nut, rod end, spacers, two nuts and a shank. Do not take this assembly apart to match length, although I cannot imagine why one would do so.

Other than that and the aforementioned posts, your problem is not one with which I can relate.

I dunno man, that's a general statement man and I have to say that not everything they sell is good.

I don't see anything wrong with starting this thread. It's not like SPL's rep is hanging by a thread and is dependent on a few members' posts.

but if you were them, would you even want business to go down a single customer due to a thread like this, I sure as hell wouldn't. I would value every customer that I had. Normally Id say dont tell people where you got it, but its an spl piece. Everyone knows where it came from. so anyway just contact them in the morning, we all know they have exceptional service. and im sure hes gonna take care of you. Most likely you have the wrong part. are installing it wrong, or it is meant to be this way, although im pretty sure the latter is wrong, since I agree 1/4 inch is pretty wicked.

Are you sure you got the right ones? I have z32 inners and their outers and have no problems. Are you using their outers and stock inners? Or their inners and stock outers? I agree, take pics. Something doesnt sound right.

The tie rod end with 1'' vertical adjustability. Just looking at its design, there are flaws.

Me and a few other classmates did a project on designing our own tie rod end for the Scion tC. At first we used a similar design as the SPL ones, but we were advised that it wasn't as good as it could be, so we modified it to be stronger (by design, not amount of material or type of material).

It's easy to do research on products that are already in production.

So far I've never heard of anyone having problems with them.

Yeah I've been running them and they've been great.. You need the 1" adjustment for bumpsteer espically with my tein flexes... +1 for SPL.

I bought mine 1 month ago , the day after I received them Kuah e-mail me and said I had recieved the wrong ends they were to short and sent a new set out over night.
There customer service is hands down the best!!
Call him with your problem and it will be made right!
Also if you are using the spacers to dial out bump steer and you adjust the rods to the length of the stock ones you will have to much toe in , by adjusting the toe the rod end will screw into the sleeve more and you will be fine

The problem is i'm a COMPLETE moron... I mean TOTAL moron... Like, smack me now, moron.

I was tired yesterday, and was working on the car after work.... I showed the rods to my friend, and he said.....why dont you unscrew the other side a little bit?

I about shit myself! Well, know how the rod ends have reverse thread? So you can turn the large "nut" and it lenghtens or shortens the rods? Well, the rod end side was all the way tight..... I guess i shouldn't work on my suspension while exhausted.... I am an IDIOT. i know...flame away...lol.

but seriously...if a mod will change the thread heading, that would be great.

I don't think this calls for flaming, you admit your mistake, you learn from it, you dont post before contacting the company again, and you move along, shit happens. glad that it all worked out for you.

next time just think twice before you put up something that might hurt the company. some of them can be hurt pretty bad by a little negative word of mouth.

Yeah, its just a little criticism to SPL. All I'm saying is every part is not the best it could be, but most of their parts emphasize strength, which I appreciate.

Another part that didn't work out well for a friend (OptionZero) was the brake duct sheets. It was just a hassle to get them to fit without bending them with the wheel prior to driving. OptionZero just ended up uninstalling them.

First, i doubt SPL is "pissed" right now.
I wasnt flaming them at all. I just stated what was happening, and asked for OPINIONS... I never called them crappy or anything....

I DID make a dumb mistake, and thats why i'm asking a mod to change the thread name to something else like(i love spl) or just delete the damn thing.

for the record- i'm already rockin the spl tension rods, brake ducts, and got a power brace from them...

That's odd, I'm running the same ducts on an S14 with 17x9 +17 and they didn't bend at all, and I recall OptionZero had 17x9 +15 FNs. I doubt the 2 mm difference affected anything, but I can't see why else they wouldn't have fit on his car while they are fine on mine. Anyways, go SPL, nice stuff, I want some SPL tie rods soon too

i ran my ducts upsidedown and it never rubbed but we had a thread on it.no worries.
