So, if we are rollin like, 4 cars deep, what if some of the "pit crew" are going to be OUR spectators? They're not allowed to watch either? They are FORCED to stay in the pits? It's fucking lame. We need to develop better contracts with those assholes so that they can't continue to pull this last minute bullshit on us.
I'm getting fucking tired of paying them for track time, and having all these lame delegations on what is, and ISN'T allowed. Soon they're gonna tell us to keep the smoke down.

Guys, I've been talking to Altamont all day in hopes that we could work sometihng out.
Santacrusin, you can bring your girl as your passenger/pit person so don't worry about that. The bigger issue at hand is that AMP wants drift events to happen often/regularly, but they are under a hawk's eye right now from the county and residents around the track that want them shut down. Their Use Permit does not allow them to have spectator events at the track... that being said the definition of a spectator event is when spectators sit in the grandstands and pay for entrance per what I understand after talking with AMP. So that doesn't mean that if 400 or so of you show up you can't watch from the parking area on the hill etc. Nobody will be allowed in the pits however due to liability and insurance exposure... I know this sucks, but this is the best I could do and I'm still not sure that they will let anyone through the gate. To everyone giving me negative feedback... that's fine, the feedback on here doesn't matter to me... but if you would've actually read the posts... I was not the person that decided not to have spectators... it was AMP. Thanks everyone and sorry for the inconvenience... Jay

Just bare with them for this first event. They are being watched and so are we. The attitude of fuck them... will get us nowhere fast. What needs to be done is to be cooperative, mature and professional so they will treat us with respect. Respect is never given to you out right... it's always earned.

So, I should be angry at the residents then? I'm getting my spraypaint ready.

I think it's a great rule, especially for AMP's (and Drift Battle's) fist official drifting event. It'll go much smoother with less people/cars to worry about.
And what the hell is up with the attitude again? Take it or leave it, shit, if you don't wanna have a properly regulated event then don't attend. It's your money, do what you want with it. There's no one to be angry to, this is just how it is and that's life. And who the hell is giving Jay negative reps?!? Ungrateful bastards.

don't sweat it. You can always bring your folks out there for the friday testing sessions. once you get on the track nothing else will matter. Some people, like my gf, work during the day so they can't pit crew. It is a Thursday after all. If you mad at AMP leave some tire marks on their property!!

I think we all need to take a step back. Eventhough this does cause problems for alot of us. We should feel lucky that altamont is willing to even try this type of motorsport again, and it is due to the hard work that jay and those guys have put fourth that is even making this possible.
I think right now Altamont has noticed that none of the drifters are driving reckless or causing problems, so that probibly leads them to believe that the problems associated with night drift was the spectators. That being said we should probibly just try to ride this one out, and act as professional as possible. Because i can guarantee you all that if this event goes bad it will probibly be the last for altamont. At least for awhile.

Emailing won't help. They already know that no one is going to be happy about the rule change. We need to be happy that we are drifting again.
Thanks Luke, good post. Thanks Jay, we know you are working hard for us! |

Why is everyone being such a crybaby?! Don't you guys realize that the specatators are the whole reason why there is drama with AMP, the county and the neighbors. Just deal with the rules. Sure it sucks that you can't have your friends/family come and watch and sure it sucks that you can't have passengers, but this is the FIRST DRIFT EVENT with AMP in 2006, so EVERYTHING is under a close watch. This event needs to go very smoothly to ensure that we can ALL have FUTURE events. Don't blame AMP for anything negative, blame the spectators who do donuts in the parking lot and/or speed up and down the road going to Altamont.
I really hope this event goes well! See everyone at the track! |

I think its so unfortunate to see how badly AMP is treating Jay and the Drift Battle group. I honestly hope they don't treat their other potential customers like this. While I agree, that they probably want to simplify things by preventing spectators, but the manner to which they notified Jay (a day before the event) is completely unprofessional.
Yes, they probably are under a microscope because of the residents who live nearby but they can go about this in a more open manner. Why didn't they express their desire for a "no spectators" rule when they began negotiations with Jay? Do you seriously believe that AMP just "decided" against spectators? No, they've been under constant watch and I bet they are aware of the complaints. I know Jay would have understood their point of view and therefore would have told people that its "Drivers only" event to show AMP that a drift event can be held without the problems (wreckless drivers outside the park) they THINK are related to these events. In addition, Jay wouldn't look like a bad guy telling everyone last minute that no spectators are allowed. I just think it sucks because AMP has a monopoly and the power to bully their customers around like that. Its too bad we can't get GG Fields or another suitable location set up for drift events as our way of boycotting AMP's business practices, such as it is --- we're stuck with the only location here in NorCal with a Viable track within an hour's drive. Jay - With this new "No Spectators" rule, how does that pan out for your competition in August? All in all, to those who registered (or could take the time off to attend) --- Have fun out there! -Aaron '91 240sx coupe |

Everyone has to stop bitching.
Stop with this whole "altamont is so strict, they hate us" attitude. Important thing is that we have track time now, so take advantage of it rather than trying to be rebellous, because quite frankly... they'll make money with or without you guys attending, and I'm sure they'd prefer NOT having us to begin with, since it brings a lot of complaints from the neighbors. |

I still plan on riding out this evening, even if I have to watch from the parking area/hill.

Guys it is a drift practice, no competion no nothing. Half of us arent anything special to watch, So it would be pretty boring imo. If there was tandems and a showoff that would be a better reason to complain for no spectators. Have fun everybody!

Had a good time. Didnt get to see more than 90 minutes or so.
I'm glad they changed their spectator policy. I was expecting a no spectator rule, so I didnt even bring my 5 bucks cash for admission. Nice to see some cool cars, and I didnt get too much ribbing about showing up on a bike.

I liked the small course actually. I didn't think it sucked at all. A little tricky to get right ( which I mangaged only once ) but fun.
Over all a great day, but a bit lacking in actual track time. Long lines just like any event like this. |

Thanks for all the support guys! And a huge thanks to everyone for cooperating and showing AMP that we are worthy of having events at their facility.
Sorry to those guys that crashed... and we do realize that the small course may not have worked well for many if any at all. We will do our best to get you guys good/safe course layouts to work with. We're just dealing with too many variables right now with AMP, safety and everyone watching. We tried to get everyone as much runtime as possible... I'm going to start a feedback thread seperate from this one so that we can get your input for the next practice. But for those of you that feel you're up to the task... 8/26 is our amateur comp!!! There will be some good competition heading up from Socal and other parts for this event... just check out the Drift Battle website for all the info. Thanks again everyone!!! Seeing the event go so well/smooth really made giving up my nights/weekends planning and working with AMP worth it. If anyone has images we can use for the site or galleries... please post links here or email the links where they are hosted to me at [email protected] Jay
