Fire from fuel pump wiring?
I just installed a new walbro 255 pump and it comes with connectors to crimp the wiring together but instead I sottered the wires and wrapped them in tape.
My question is can the wiring spark somehow and start a fire or explode? Ive read that it cant because its submersed in liquid but right now my gas tank is pretty low and the gas would not be enough to fully submerge the wiring or pump Ive also read that because of the pressure there is no oxygen for a fire to start but being that I just put the pump in and havent started it I would assume there is oxygen in there from being exposed to the air |

Lol, I almost had a heart attack stressing over the same question before I started up my car. Don't worry, it'll be fine.

i soldered and shrink wrapped mine. id be worried of tape coming off from fuel. then the wires could potentailly touch each other and heat up. you never know. i would redo it. better just be safe, dont take a chance

So wait, you wrapped it with tape? Tape that could potentially be submerged under gas. You think electrical tape would stay on after getting submerged under gas?
Id redo the solder and atleast heatshrink the bare wires. |

yea I think I'll at least shrink wrap them instead of tape Idk why I didnt think of that in the first place.
I followed this video from enjuku and I couldnt tell if he shrink wrapped or what he did to the wires http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OFGGOlw1SE |

As stated, NO TAPE. The gas will dilute the adhesive and the tape will fall off. It is EXTREMELY unlikely for that to cause a fire though. Remember fire takes fuel AND oxygen. If you don't have the correct mixture it won't ignite.
