@$#^% stupid pop ups!! need help find the source..
It seems like the new trend now, i guess they are message pop ups that are brought up thru something in windows? I got win xp by teh way. and these stupid pop ups are like thru windows messaging or something.. Anyone know what im talking about? Is it solved by some windows update? Even adaware, virus scan, or even a firewall cant save me from this crap. What gives??

cool, my friend told me how to kill it. Go to Control Panal, then Administrative tools, then Services, then in the column, look for "messenger" then disable it.

download hijackthis! and use it to eliminate popups and hijackers... just make sure you don't delete everything as most of the stuff you'll see is legit. if you don't know which, post your hijack this log on a internet security forum and they will tell you which ones to delete.

i installed this program called the ultimate pop up blocker, it also searches for spyware on my computer. well, it deleted the winsock (which is what sbc told me since i can connect but i can't browse sites), so i had to reinstall windows. it's hard to trust spyware removers nowadays, cuz spyware hides in important places. best bet is to be careful of opening sites, especially search sites, since they will install on your computer and make a new homepage. i hate this shit, it's going too far!

Go register at www.spywareinfo.com and show people your Hijackthis Log and they will help you clean up your computer so it runs better than ever. I've had to do it twice and it wasn't cuz of porn either. CWshredder is good program to use before you use hijackthis. |

I have CheckIt 86 (pop-up blocker) and Webroot Spy Sweeper (self-explanitory) from COX Cable, the only time i get pop-ups is when its NOT blocking. Also, the Spy Sweeper works too, ive been using it for almost a year now with no problems. Not to mention i have McAfree AND Norton AntiVirus. I chat on AIM and Windows messenger all the time, no problems. Although, i do get some junk e-mail. The only downside to CheckIt 86, is that u have to disable it to open up a link thats posted on this forum. But i rarely have a problem with it. If i get mass pop-ups, i just turn in on, and close the windows.
