TPS wiring for S13 Manual & Automatic Trans

I have an S13 1990 5 speed and the TPS wires are Black, red-green, and a 2 wire greyish white wire. There is a silver wire around the inner wire like a coaxial cable. What is the silver outside wire for because the TPS only uses 3 wires. Was the 4 wire setup for the automatic trans? Do I need the 4th silver wire?

the silver wire is your sensor ground wire, it acts as an insulator for your signal wire, you dont really need it, but nissan put it in there for a reason. if your doing any soldering, just make sure that wire does not touch your signal wire or you will have big problems.

An automatic TPS uses 6 wires.

1990 s13 tps

1990 SOHC TPS Wiring? I have a broken plug with 2 yellow wires. I got another plug with 3 wires-2 yellow and a green/black wire. But my harness only has 2 yellow wires coming into it.

I have a 5 speed manual. Do I need 3 wires? There is a green/black in the harness but it goes to the sensor along with a black and a white wire--total 3.

If you need to see a photo.......I can post one.

That looks to me like a automatic tps. you should only need three wires, ground, power and signal.

-the light green/red stripe wire is your tps power
-the white one is your signal
-the black is your ground
check the wires with a volt meter

does the car run?

Wiring

I have 2 yellow wires that are in the plug which I have been using for 8 years like that.
The wiring manual shows the 3rd pin is a dotted line going to the ECU.

Question. In doing a 5speed swap, does the motor still need to use a Auto TPS or Manual? I'm getting code 43 (TPS sensor) from mine. I've tried replacing the TPS, but the CEL still stays on.
