Curiosity about Ledger's final performance will likely stoke further interest in the summer blockbuster. "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan said this month that Ledger's Joker would be wildly different from Nicholson's.

"It was a very great challenge for Heath," Nolan said. "He's extremely original, extremely frightening, tremendously edgy. A very young character, a very anarchic presence that taps into a lot of our basic fears and panic."

Ledger told The New York Times in a November interview that he "stressed out a little too much" during the Dylan film and had trouble sleeping while portraying the Joker, whom he called a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy."

"Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told the newspaper. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." He said he took two Ambien pills, which worked for only an hour, the paper said."

Autopsy results are inconclusive so far according to the news on MSN.com
Sleeping pills were found by him and its possibly an accidental overdose.

I think the movie studio had him off-ed to guarantee the Dark Knight movie gets insane revenue.

Those people are not truly Christians for saying some retarded shit like that.

He was a great talent, and if Hollywood doesn't recognize the great loss, than I have no faith in it at all anymore.

From what I heard, he had been having a lot of trouble sleeping, and he was taking prescription sleeping pills and OTC pills too. The last days that people saw him, he was in a bad shape, saying he couldn't get his mind to slow down enough for him to go to sleep. He was taking a lot of them because he was saying they weren't working. I think he was just tired as hell, and his body couldn't process the heavy dosages. I really feel bad for him, and for his daughter. But, she's gonna get all that money he would have made for The Dark Knight. Still won't make up for not having a daddy.

My condolences go out to all.

The reason everyone is stuck about The Dark Knight (NOT Batman) is because this was going to be his break-through role. The role of the Joker is a difficult one to play, because this character is so maniacal, so sinister, just plain, unadulterated, anarchistic EVIL. He was quoted as saying he had problems sleeping during and after the filming of the role because it took a toll on him physically and emotionally. He stretched himself to the limit on this role.

What disturbs me is the comments that people in his life have made about how he was up until his death. They knew he wasn't sleeping, they knew he was taking a lot of sleeping pills. He was also heard saying that he took 2 Ambiens (prescription sleeping pills) together, which only worked for an hour.
He had also separated from his girlfriend, which would take a toll on the best of us. It disturbs me so because if they all knew what he was going through, why didn't anyone think to help him before it was too late.

I watched the trailer again today, and man, what a loss. I honestly think he surpassed Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker, only because Jack had more of a mobster-type feel, while Heath took it to a wholly darker, edgier, demonic
place.

jack nicholson was in london or something and was outside. paperazzi surrounded him while he was signing autographs and they broke the news to him..

when jack nicholson asked how they told him that he OD'd and he just said "i warned him"

this all happened at the time when there werent many facts and it was early in the investigation
