Interior question about seatbelt delete panels
I've been here for ages, never really seen anyone discuss this before but I know that the answer is out there.. so I will ask.
For us US 240 owners, is there a 100% clean solution to eliminating the US interior panels and putting replacement panels that DO NOT HAVE PROVISIONS for the auto seatbelts? Now, I know we're going to start talking about J-spec and Canadian-spec parts. But which ones? A-PILLAR COVERS The J-spec A-pillar covers SHOULD have a provision for the "oh shit" handle which normally comes on the LH side of the car (for Japan). So, we cannot use the J-spec panels. Furthermore, I already have the "oh shit" handle and have installed it on the RH (passenger) side of my car. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the answer is to attain the Canadian a-pillar covers. Can anyone confirm? B-PILLAR COVER I'm going to take a guess and say that the J-spec OR Canadian b-pillar covers should work. Also, I am going to assume that the B-pillar covers used in Japan and Canada have provisions for the manual seatbelts? Can anyone confirm? Headliner I've read that there are differences between the various different headliners for our cars. What are the differences between US-spec, J-spec, Canada, etc....? Please share info. Please post any information and/or pics, because I would like to actually complete my car sometime this lifetime and possibly even attend the 240sx convention in 2030. Thanks, Mike |

a-pillars: yes, canada
b-pillars: jdm and canadian, both have manual belts. i think european models have manual belts also. edit for b-pillars: there are no panels that have zero seat belt provision. the cars in other markets have a hole cut out for the seatbelt. all headliners for all markets are the same, unless there were some special materials used in certain markets, but the shape is the same. |

does anyone happen to have an extra 180sx a-pillar cover, or a photo that they can share?
I'de like to either make a template, or at least SEE exactly how the a-pillar cover was cut for the "oh shit" handle, that way I can make a proper cut to the canadian a-pillar cover thanks for the info, and if you guys have any pics that you can contribute with, feel free to share. besides broadfield, i dont think there are too many other guys here who actually care about CLEAN INTERIOR... (or even owning a clean 240) |

i don't have any experience with cdm parts so i'll only compare jdm vs. udsm
jdm a-pillars panels are not as wide. they clip directly into the frame and have no gap for the auto belts obviously. usdm a-pillars are wider and more flared due to the auto belt track. these also clip into little metal brackets that are bolted to the frame...pretty redundant honestly if you've already stripped the auto belts. the jdm headliner is also wider because the a-pillar panels are not as wide. if you use jdm a-pillars and a usdm headliner there will be like a 1" gap between the liner and panels, just on the section above the windows. the jdm b-pillars have the cutout for manual belts already. however there is a small trim piece that clips into this cutout and is usually only found on the jdm seatbelt assemblies themselves. that's in my experience anyways. you can use the usdm rear seat side panels still with the jdm b-pillars and have no worries. i'm using jdm a and b-pillar panels in my car with a usdm headliner. i can take pics for you but won't be able to have them up until tomorrow. |

thanks for the more factual info, i **KNEW** there was a fucking difference with that gaddamn headliner. My car is not fitted with seatbelts, it uses schroth harnesses w/ rollbar. The auto seatbelts were eliminated like 10 years ago, that shits history.. and I dont plan on installing manual seatbelts either, I had S14 belts for a while and dumped them in exchange for the harnesses. this is why i am seeking a setup that has the least amount of holes or provisions. now the question is, how big is the hole/provision for the manual seatbelt in the b-pillar cover? if you want, you can email the pics to me at [email protected] if you dont want to deal with hosting. i'll can host them for you. thanks guys |

yeah, so i didnt know the headliners were different till i tried to install the panels for the j-spec manual seatbelts. i did however make these things out of cardboard to fill in the gap between the headliner and panels... yeah, i know it sounds kinda cheap, but i just wanted to get it done. but it didnt turn out too bad in my opinion.
sanded the extra fabric down a little to give it a smoother look two layers of headliner later, it looks good. just a slight line of uneveness where the extra peices were added on, but i dont think anyone would notice unless i told them. could have spent a little more time on it to make it better... maybe next time. and it turned out very plush like. here it is installed... kinda as for the seatbelt holes in the panels, there is just an opening where the belt pulls between the b-pillar panel and that lower rear side panel. hope that helps some. |

just as jon mr2 posted your car will look like that if you use either the jspec or canadian spec a pillar. please make note that not all of these came with the "oh shit" grip as mine dont have them and i have seen other that dont aswell. the b pillar is also the same jspec and canadian spec.
you will have to modify your head liner like jon mr2 did or come up with a way to make up for the gap. unless you can get a jspec or canadian one... but that wouldnt be cost effective. also once this has been done. since you remove the lap belt you will be left with those retarded humps that are molded into the carpet in the rear floor bords and on the rocker panels too. i am 99% sure that a s14 carpet will fit our s13's and effectivly delete that stupid looking humps and clean up the apperiance of the car too. this is where i am at now trying to find a clean s14 carpet to experiment with this theroy of mine. |

so yeah finally got a couple pics. pretty much been answered already but just fun to see i guess. jon i really like what you did to your headliner, good job! yes i know my sun visors are brown, so was the whole interior originally i'm just slowly getting it all swapped over to black.
here you can see the usdm headliner gap with the jdm panels: here you can see how the jdm belt is run. the usdm rear seat lower panel will still work in this case since the belt runs behind the b-pillar and out through the top. also notice the secondary trim piece that is a part of the belt assembly. oh shit handle with headliner gap. somebody should mold some plastic caps for those 2 spots...or start sourcing just the single canadian panel and headliners exclusively lol. random shot just showing how the jdm panels have no auto belt gap crap. they just fit so much better without the stupid little metal brackets that the usdm panels require. i'm also interested if an s14 carpet will work like you theorize. i finally got my hands on a clean black s13 240sx carpet to put in, but hate those stupid belt assembly humps too! Last edited by ^fraktal^; 10-02-2009 at 09:50 PM.. |

and i figured the same thing that the A pillars that i have are from a base model that doesnt have the "oh shit" grips. it makes sense. |

would it be possible to order that Bpillar seatbelt hole trim piece from some dusty ass nissan warehouse from god knows where?
does any nissan wizard out there know the part # people with USDM stuff could probably make do with just popping in that seatbelt hole plug thing. at least until they source jdm/cdm stuff also as far as a pillar stuff is concerned.. you could probably fill in any holes and wrap that in a headliner-looking material, thats what all the benzes and bmws have.. it might look weird on our cars though. especially if youre not running a headliner.. maybe vinyl wrap?

Is there a difference between the coupe and hatchback headliner? I have a motorised sunroof in my hatch but no headliner.
I searched and I'm not finding anything so I thought I'll post here. |
