That's news to me I have never knew SOHC and DOHC's to be interchangeable by swapping heads But even if its technically possible I think its not worth the work (and not plug and play either) I think just either put in SOHC, or put in a DOHC, rather than mix and matching

i have a feeling this is gonna get locked....... sr vs ka has been debated over and over and over again and i think honestly the consensus is that both motors can do the job, its just a matter of what you prefer

rockers blew at 6400 rpm. I have a rev limit. it is a bad design simply. great motor otherwise... ka's seem to be tougher... ka ca rb all have a stronger head... I guess to me rockers are not needed. ka head is simple. and thats that. to OG poster... you can get a rb20 for $900. 200 hp and hella tough. you may want to do your own research tho. cause like dude said, people will argue for days about my dad can beat up your dad type shit... My opinion. sell your car, save your money, get a hooker...then a Head job! gl either way playa1 |

You also need to keep in mind of replacement parts, ease of install, etc
To me, its either KA or SR For example...RB20...knowledge base is limited, parts aren't as easy to source, not a straight forward swap, etc Same thing with CA18.... But to each his own I just don't see the point of getting anything but a SR if you are trying to "upgrade" the car SR parts are in stock all the time, abundantly supported, tons of knowledge base, drops in, etc

fyi if you blew the rocker arms a 6400 you must be doing something wrong because the sr head is good to 7500 all day before mods would only recommend on reving out to 7k don't want valve float.

lol, when i saw the title, i thought it was gonna be one of those fun threads like "funniest place you ever got head" or "funny story while getting head"....
but, coming from a person who has done the swap himself, getyourself dohc KA, build the internals, rebuild the fucker, replace all necessary componenets (gaskets, oil pump, water pump, blah) and turbo that fucker. it will end up costing just about the same as an SR swap. but that's just like....my opinion mannn... |
