Instead of plugging into the cigrette lighter, I want to just hook up the wires, but the problem is, how should I make it so that the wire isn't hanging on the dash?  Anyone did this before please tell me how you did it.

I've never done this but I would imagine there is a hot and a ground lead. Just connect the hot lead to an ignition/accesory wire and then ground the other. If it works right, it should only come on when the car is on.
Oops, I guess that wasn't your question.
To answer your question, depending on how long the wire is or where you locate it, I would say that you could run it behind the dashboard probably a PITA but would look clean.

"hard wiring" like u said is an option, but another option is to buy an accessory socket.....just like a cig lighter, but no element, and hard wire that. u can mount it up under ur dash so u can't see any wiring. this gives u a hidden socket and ur stock cig lighter in its orig place, and u don't have to cut the plug off the radar detector (that way u can use it in other vehicles). just an idea <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'>

Hi,
I just did this the other day with my V1. I needed some extra wire but I picked it up at Pep Boys - I think it was either 16 or 18 (probably 18) gauge. I unscrewed the sun visors and pulled out the a-pillar (there is one screw) and ran the positive and ground behind them. Then I ran them down in the door seal (you can still see them) and through a small hole which leads right behind the kickpanel. My whole dash was already out so I just ran it under and connected it to the cigarette lighter. My central ground for everything is the emergency brake. Any more ?s, feel free to ask.

all you have to do is run the wire across the headliner down the piller to the fuse box and pick ne one of the fuses on the right side of the fuse box and put the + wire around one of the prongs on the fuse and plug it back in and ground the - wire
and just stuff the raidar dector up in the headliner like i did (in the pix) useing the window mount with the suction cups.
now when you turn on the car it will turn on and when you turn the car off it will also turn off <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
