For those of you in the area, there is going to be an open track weekend at VIR put on by Speedtrial.  (for info, go to www.speedtrialusa.com).  The town is Alton, VA - located near the VA/NC border - and the date is Feb. 23 & 24.

First things first:  this is NOT a race it is a High Performance Driving Event.  This means that there will be other cars on the track, you can go as fast as you can, and that passing is allowed in certain sections; however, passing may ONLY be done in certain sections, there are NO "winners," and you don't need a racing license to participate.  This is the perfect place to improve you skills, but the focus is on improvement.  Cars CAN get bent up if you are not careful, so keep that in mind.  Okay, back to fun stuff...

The course is a 3.3 mi. road course that could be the best time you have ever had in a car!  (yup, even better than that road trip where...)  Better than that is the price - $199 for two days.  The Speedtrial guys are coming out from California and want to establish a presence in the region, so their prices are below what you would pay at a FATT or comperable regional SCCA/NASA event.  Two days of track time = 4 runs x 25 min. each means you may put about 200 miles of track use on your car!  Instructors will be provided (mandatory for beginners).  One caveat - do not register at he speedtrial site or you will have to pay $239 (not a bad deal anyway)!!  If you are serious, drop me an email and I will set you up with a a guy running a discount for another board/club (check my profile for my addy).

What do you need? &nbsp;A helmet - SA95 or better, a car that will pass tech, and $199. &nbsp; You may want to have some good brake pads and and extra helping of Wheaties to give you the courage to try to uphill esses at better than 100 mph :o but otherwise, I can attest that a stock 240 will do fine on course <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Hope to see you there... Mark - who has a shopping list for the month of Feb that is a mile long and a wallet that is a nano-meter thick!

The VIR thing is not a meet, it's a real live track event. &nbsp;Me and uuninja should be there and maybe some others, but there will be many other kinds of cars. &nbsp; If you're interested in spectating, there will be some amazing sights to watch, but there shouldn't be anything stopping you from putting your car on the track either. &nbsp;Mine will still be near bone stock, w/ high mileage &nbsp;- but it'll be on course.

The discount is closed, but you can still register at www.speedtrialusa.com if you are interested. &nbsp; If you want to spectate, I can drop you aline about where we'll be staying and the location before we head down.
