I don't watch these stupid award shows, did not know this happened until I looked at the thread, then I looked at some of the video of him having backstage meltdown, and interviews, and the guy is like a spoiled fuckin kid. And comes off as disrespectful, and like a closet racist.
How can you act like an ass hole, say shit, and then go on a blog and post shit contradicting what you said and expect people to act like your a decent person.

Ironically last night while flipping through the channels the end of the awards were on, and turns out Beyonce won best video of the year, and when she accepted the award she said some shit about how her first vma ment alot to her, and that she wanted Taylor Swift to come up and get to have her "moment", I thought that was classy, and deserved. But it is funny that she ended up winning, which makes me think that with today standards, does anyone else think Sir Mix-a-lot's puttem on the glass, or baby got back would win a vma? Or anything from 2live crew? lol. Music and mtv does suck.

Debating whether Kanye is a rapper or an MC will devolve into circular rhetoric and will ultimately be based upon your own preference. Bottom line: Who sells more records worldwide? And if Daft Punk thought Kanye did them a disservice, they wouldn't have worked with him on the track.

I have been listening to Daft Punk for a while, ever since the Discovery album came out in fact. Daft Punk got more listeners after Kanye because people reliezed that Kanye's song was shit compared to the original by Daft Punk.

Specializing in the "Urban" scene..? Is that like the "Politically Correct" term for "Rap/Hip Hop"..? I may not be a writer specializing in "Urban" sounds but I think I can hear/listen pretty ok when comes to decent sounds. Kanye on the other hand..?? Not so much.

These are just my feelings on Kanye himself. I didnt even know about his actions at the VMA's til I came upon this thread.

In closing I'd like to qoute the great Gary Grice aka "GZA"- "Who's Your A&R? A mountain climber who plays an electric guitar? But he don't know the meaning of dope.."

All people who were and always will be the best at what they do. The problem arises when people become popular, and then degrade because they cannot produce quality work anymore. I dont care for Jay Z or Kanye West because they're shit is tired. They got too fat to create good work anymore, spent too much time enjoying riches as opposed to spending their time working.

More hilarity... "Urban" is just what they paper management labeled me since, of the 8 music/entertainment regulars they had on staff, only 2 of us were black and only 1 of those 2 managed to get backstage everywhere and cover "Black" music.

No matter how good you are, if you don't stay relevant, you will be replaced and the world will move on and barely even notice. The majority of todays entertainers are disposable commodities. The one's that will be here for years to come will be the ones that continue to make headlines, even despite lack of actual talent. It's called 'staying power'.

Yeah. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we don't. I remember one article I wrote reviewing an Usher album and I bashed one song on it. Almost as if to spite me, that song became one of his biggest hits of all time. I failed bigtime on that one... lol

Hit record or not I know quite a few Wu/Hip Hop in general heads that'll tell you a lil something about "staying power". I think maybe your definition of "staying power" differs from mine. However I do think that your definition comes from that of a COMMERCIAL record label. What do writers like yourself hope to become..? Because from what it sounds like "A voice of the masses" is way too deep for ya'll. I bet it's more something like becoming one of those know-nothing talking heads that you see on VH1's Where are they now..? Because of affirmative action, I bet my white ass wouldnt get a job in the urban department because I am not black, even though I'm damn sure I know more about rap than you and I'm around the same age.
