CLUTCHES! favorites and ones to avoid

Ok i hate to start a new thread but im debating on a clutch setup. i have a ka-t in my hatch right now and my power goes are near the 400 mark. my clutch is already slipping as is and iv been doing so research and alot of clutches seem hit or miss. im looking for a clutch that can hold 400 ft/lbs and still be a dd. i was looking at spec stage 3 sprung six puck and did some research on then and ppl seem to love them and they work great or the hate the shit out of the and the break fast. Im pretty dead set on an ACT NX4-XTG6 6-Puck sprung Heavy Duty Clutch Kit. but they also happen to have divided results. i was wondering if there is and good clutches that can handle the torgue im looking to through down and not shatter or throw springs out. another thing that trough me off is i looked at reviews on some no name ebay clutches and ppl seemed to love them, wtf. dont really wana throw an ebay special in there and have to pull it out the next day. any advice or experiences would be great, thanks.

I'm sure it's been covered by I'll leave my insight here.

I have a ACT 6 puck HD unsprung on my track car. I wouldn't mind driving it as a daily though, super nice. I also have their flywheel. The clutch has been solid at 300hp for over a year now.

I originally put it in and had problems. Act sent me a brand new one even though it was out of their warranty period. They really took care of me and I'm definitely a customer for life.

I have the same setup, in a track car. At one point I daily drove it too. Great clutch.

+1 for the ACT. I had a Spec stage 3 and I was not a fan, it started slipping after a year but that was with heavy drift/track use. I have a Competition in my car right now and I love it, but I have also used ACT clutches before and have nothing but good things to say about them as well. I have an eBay special (f1 brand) stage 3 in my missile car and it has surprisingly held up great after 2 years of heavy abuse but that's just on a stock ka. I wouldn't even consider one for your build

If it is your daily or a car that you plan to drive often DO NOT get a unsprung. I had an ACT unsprung for about a week before I realized that I just couldn't deal with it on a day to day basis but I am a pussy when it comes to things like that. It was fun letting other people try to drive my car with it though.

Stock flywheel, resurfaced, with a six puck sprung RPS.

I love it. Grabby, responsive, yet totally street able. Recommend it to everyone

No chatter (yet, <700 miles) but there is some chassis vibration when you engage

I got screwed over by act. They sent me a clutch kit that was completely rusted... The pressure plate was deeply pitted. I didn't realize it until 34 days after purchase because my motor was being built, and they said their warranty was only for 30 days. I sent them pictures of what was clearly well over 30 days worth of rust, and they basically told me to go pound sand. I have a Exedy clutch now, and have used Spec and Clutchmasters since my ACT incident, and I've had great luck with all of them. I will never buy another ACT

I've liked my ACT NS1-HDG6 model clutch so much I decided to by another one for my other car. IMO if you want a good clutch that performs for a good price ACT is the way to go. I also used a NISMO coppermix twin IMO if you didnt know it you'd swear it was OEM.

Resurfaced OEM flywheel and Fidanza 2.1 Carbon/Kevlar clutch set.

I have 20-25k miles on it with absolutely no issues(daily driven ~250hp). I only kick it in the rain so I can't provide that kind of insight, but overall I'm really happy with it.

Just make sure you buy an OEM throwout bearing. Pretty sure that goes for any of these clutch sets.

so I see there is only one person with a carbon clutch and it seems good but Im wondering what others opinions of them are I'm mainly looking for longevity and something that would hold about 325tq? and I plan on going with a rps cyn-r-g flywheel because of the whole rebuildable aspect. and as of right now I've been running a 6 puck clutch from Tennessee clutch & co very well priced and it grabs like all hell but still very street-able but if it gets any bit of slippage it does a number to your flywheel

Now I have no sponsorship loyalty to spec....... dont get spec. I used a stage 3+ in my LS6/T56 swap and had to replace it twice, one time a spring broke, and the other time the center cracked.

This was on a spec kit that included a billet flywheel all rated at 967ft lbs on a car that made 470 ftlbs

Blitz active single clutch with there lightened fly wheel.. It's crazy loud but it grabs and holds awesome. Olny problem i's tracking down a new clutch when it's toast. They stopped making them. It's holding my 320 hp .

I keep hearing nothing but good things about F1. A lot of guys I know are running them and they're supposedly great. I ordered one last week and I'll see for myself soon enough.

My first 240 I decided to buy a fidanza 9 lb flywheel and act 6 puck un-sprung with the ext pressure plate and holy fuck sauce it wasn't fun for the first few weeks daily driving but I got use to it after that. still on big hills it wasn't fun!

I like my current setup which is a hks 3 puck sprung disk with hks pressure plate and stock resurfaced flywheel. Nice grab and held 360ish whp but started to slip on hard shifts at around 400rwhp.

I think act makes some of the best clutches around! Also had one on my evo a while back and it held 450awhp daily and launching! act 4 puck un-sprung with act 9 lb flywheel

I vote ACT!

my car has been through pretty much the exact same stuff, but with a fidanza lightweight and an ebay f1 six puck clutch. and i have a ka lol, going on almost 3 years. dropped the tranny a few months ago and still had plenty of life left. other than a small bit of glazing on the pressure plate ive had zero problems with the setup.

im clearly not saying these are better than other brands but they're not complete garbage as most would say just because its ebay. if you can afford it definitely get something name brand. i got this because i needed a new one and wanted a cheap $135 upgrade lol
