well after reading all that i must say i'm def not sad to have missed it...glad those who had fun did but it sounds like the usual Drift Day type event with not enough track time for too much money with too many idiots...

hopefully in the future they will get more frequent so that less people attend each one...or maybe they will sacrifice profit for pleasure and limit the entrants...

All and all I thought it was pretty kewl. Everyone got together kicked back and had fun. Besides driving time that's what it should all be about. I thought for those beginers who stuck to the skid pad, they had a lot of fun and enjoyed all the time they got on the skid pad.

I don't know. I don't have too much bad to say, I thought it was great for a first time event. Usually they get better as time goes on, or even to do a two day event would be kewl with some kind of competition set up. With a track it wouldn't be hard to do a time trial around the track.

Well thats my .02 cents.

It was fun, towards the end of the day I basically had the skidpad all to myself because everyone was off doing whatever else. I was the 89 s13 hatch, number 516. I caught on pretty quick on how to swing the back end out but with my open diff most often than not I couldn't hold it. I'll definately go to the next one because im a local (live in Willows) . As with everyone else that fool in the black lancer with the headlights on the hood annoyed the shit outta me. Right when I got unpacked at 7 Am he pulled up beside me and started playing his stupid music loud as shit, and revving the shit outta his car up and down the paddock area. But anyways I hope people go to http://www.ncda.net/forums/index.php? and post all your pictures, id' love to see some video of people drifting if anyone got some good clips.

I wasn't there but I've heard mixed stories... all I've gotta say is:

- at least its not cone dodging
- at least its in norcal
- its their first event & the following ones will be better!

Donald & Co. are trying hard to get this shit going in NorCal so we all best to come out to the events that are coming up! I spent a lot of time dishing out flyers so yall better not let my work go to waste :P

Best thing I heard about it though was that they had PRO photographers out there... my buddy got some NICE shots of himself gettin sideways. GREAT shit, they better have em at the next event cus I want a shot of me eating the dirt

it was just a lancer rally edition front wheel drive with drum rear brakes with a turbo kit. it looked like a pos and you should have seen him burning his clutch out on the skid pad. thats probably why he had to tow.

There have been plenty of norcal events in the past. This event is one of the "larger" events but thats about it.

3 events in buttonwillow the last few months, all thread mentioned on zilvia at least once. Drift or grip. More track time, less people, skid pad etc etc. Same price, less filler.

I guess maybe you could say buttonwillow is not norcal. But when you drive 3 hours to either Thunderhill or buttonwillow, 3 hours is 3 hours.

note to NCDA...next event you put on limit it to 30 drivers...would be soooo much better i'm sure...

and you might wanna look into booking a day here and there at Buttonwillow...just to mix things up...nice to have variation..

30 people at buttonwillow is still alot But 30 people for NCDA(at least the east loop) and would mean no money too....so they cant make much off of it. Maybe the whole track....I dont know... big events like that have around...100? too many...hehe. Ill just stick to private events and occasional NCDA/DD events.

I dont know...personally i wasnt too impressed with the event just cuz the drift track was too short *2 f*ckin turns* and the skid pad/j turn needed to get freakin alot wider not longer. the guys on the grip pad had a blast *i give props to this guy named eddie...stock civic DX AUTOMATIC with type R suspension that was passing FDs and WRXs on the corners* Then the posser EVO got on my nerves *but he did redeem himself by blowing his POS up, tawt it was the engine, not tranny since i saw oil drippin off the engine* Josh Blew his engine....*it was jes a matter of time* OS GILKEN IT IS BLEEEOTCH. Christian abusing his kouki...and last but not least...

ME gettin on the track for 4 laps on the last run fo fweeeeeeee......

fuck making money...they get to drift for free as the ones who put the event on...that is their payment...if they are looking to turn it into a profitable job or an actual company then they can go fuck themselves and their 80-100 person, <10 miles of actual track time, worthless events...

on the other hand, people will still go to these events...Drift Days will always sell out...my guess is that these NCDA events will as well...it's like people paying $60+ for a lift ticket to snowboard...as long as there are enough idiots out there who will shell out the cash then there is no incentive to make things affordable...

so in that regard..more power to them and their ability to profit at the expense of their peers..if that is their goal..

as for Buttonwillow...30 is not too many drivers...it is the upper echelon of what is acceptable but it is every workable...you would still get 60-90 miles of on track time with this many people...and be VERY tired by the end of the day...even with this many participants you still have the track to yourself frequently after 12pm or so because people start to take longer breaks and get more fatigued..

but drive time is dependent on those participating in the event...Drift Days and this NCDA event pretty much cater to a less experienced group of drifters...this is always going to lead to less track time, more safety issues, and more problems overall...

anyway whatever...events are events and more events are a good thing...congrats on a successful first event!!

I have to agree with all the folk that were dissapointed with the event. I really don't think that it was worth the drive, or the money that I had to spend to get to this event.

The safety issue was horrible in my opinion. The fact that the cars had to cross each others paths to get from the skid pad to the j-turns, was just a horrible design. I also found myself not going balls out on the j-turns because I was afraid of messing up and hitting a spectator! I also thought it was bad because the track only had 2 turns that you could drift, and they were 3rd gear turns, and I really don't think that anyone there(including myself) besides some of the advanced group, should be attempting high speed drifts yet. I think that it just makes it possible for people to hurt themselves or thier cars!

I was getting so frustrated that I actually switched over to the grip group after lunch. I figured that since I wasn't learning anything new with drift, I might as well work on my grip skills.

I think I'm sticking to the buttonwillow events from now on...30 people is a great amount...Everyone is relaxed, chill, and you get more than enough track time. That, to me, is the PERFECT track day!

1. I dont do it for money. I don't have 30 people at the track. I only want 20 or so to cover the track and any damages that we may have done. And my gas money. hahaha.

2. I love drifting and I want to get away from the big crowd without any of the runs groups. I have the free time of relaxing without any pressure of getting back to the track every hour without lossing track time. That goes for everyone. This is why I do my own track days.

3. My track days are not for everyone. Im not here to make everyone happy to fit on thier scheduling. Weekends are a lot expensive than weekdays and It would put a pressure on my ass to put atleast 30-35 people "JUST" to cover the track. Not just that, I also have to pay insurance for 25 or more. Which is going to cost me a lot of money and it all ends up to 40 plus people at the track which really sucks and defeats the "private event".

So... thats being said. My private events are not for everyone. Theres plenty of track days out there nowadays for weekends, especially for drifting.

I don't think Todd and Don are out to make any money by putting on drift events. Thunderhill ain't cheap, especially on a weekend. To cover the costs, they had to have more participants. I think we've all been spoiled by the Buttonwillow events. I hope to see you guys and gals at the next event, be it private or public.
