s14 Wiring harness question, any insight is appreciated!

Can you use a 96 wiring specialties trans harness in a 240sx that is 97-98? I currently have one in my car but I'm having wiring issues (battery not charging, starter plug and alternator plug not working) so I am now wondering if this a compatibility issue?

I believe they’re chassis specific, s13 vs. s14 not year specific. But I could be wrong. I can’t tell the difference between my 96 and my friends 95.

not 100% sure. I think the 95-96 are different from 97-98 due to the obd 1 and 2.

I think this is true, however some zenkis came with ob2 type ports but with only ob1 capabilities. I have a 95 with an ob2 port below the passenger side glove box area.

I have a 96 main engine harness and that appears to be compatible so that's why I was asking about the trans harness. Now I'm wondering if a 97-98 trans harness is compatible with the 96 engine harness..

There are 4 different harnesses in the 96 model year... obd1 manual, obd1 auto, obd2 manual, obd2 automatic. It all depends on the production date of your car ...

Its such a cluster fuck between 95-97, the one year 1996 is like a breed/mix of 95 and 97. The FSM has sooo many wrong wires. I recently wired an LS swap into a 96 and had to use both 95 and 97 diagrams to get it straight. And I am still lost with some of it.

FWIW you need the right year harness, and if its a 96 then you might actually need to try different 96's until one works. Some people will list a 95 harness as a 95-96 for example, or say sure S14 zenki harness.

Hi I work at Wiring Specialties - this harness definitely is only listed compatible with 95-96.

https://www.wiringspecialties.com/s1...ss-oem-series/

Shoot an email to [email protected] and a tech can most likely help you figure something out - change connectors, swap alternator, get charging system working again with a resistor, etc.
