Datsun or Older Skool?
Alright, I have a 1978 Datsun 280Z 2+2.
It's rotted badly, but it runs, and needs a shit ton of chassis/body work. But I love it. I mean I picked it up for 250$ and put another 200 into it to get it running (which the previous owner couldn't do) so I'm into it for short money, and really have no problem continuing on with it, because I love old cars, especially Zs, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER ITS 2/2 OR NOT. However, I grew up on musclecars and old skool cars, and I'm really really wanting one. Hell I almost bought a 1964 Dodge Polara 4 door with a 318 V8 a couple years ago. I'm to the point now where I can dump a shitload of money into the Datsun, but even after all is said and done, the car really doesnt have mcuh longer to live I think, MAYBE another year or two. I dunno. I just want an old car other than my beetle, Datsun or otherwise. So, do I sell the datsun for like 500$ and move one, or do I dig my feet in for the long haul with it and try to keep it among the driven? and please don't base your decision soley on the fact it's a 2/2, cause it's still a Z.

well you probably dont have to worry about smog where you live, so you can probably just make that a project car and restore it?

and to add to my post, if i do go older skool, I will be getting something older than both the beetle and the Z, as in 65 or older.

Do both. Keep the z, throw a turbo motor in it and track it. Then get an older muscle car for a project. Come on, what good is selling the z for a lousy 500 dollars. Keep it man!

why not get an older 60's bluebird... not the fasteest thing in the world but way more rare than some 69 rs z8 clone crap... it depends on what you after now...raw power (z with small block) great handling (510 with ka or sr20de) or fun to drive with ok handling (roadster) or truck wise a 520 (with ka in it)

z with small block is ghetto, unless its a ls2 or 7. all that 350 carb'd shit is fucking stupid. and people that carb the l28's are stupid too. i want to build my 2+2 but i just dont have the cash flow to do what i want right now.

lol, it is true though. 2+2's just look... odd, compared next to the 240/260.

I say ditch the Z. Go old school. '49-'65 cars = win. |

Now going older with something else is cool as well. It all depends on what your intentions are or if your just being ADD about it.

Personally I like the 280z better than the 260z Rare cars are cool and all but the roof-line of the 2+2 is just ugly IMO.
Either way it's not like you can just go to the Z store and buy another Z car... those things are rare gems in our area (north east us) rust seems to demolish most cars inside 15 years... if they last longer than that it's a miracle. Personally, there are only 2 Z cars that I would go out of my way to own and the 280 isn't one of them. If I was going for old school I'd import an old school imported Datsun. 69 Skyline GT Or maybe a 510 or 710.. mmmm Last edited by twistedsymphony; 08-28-2008 at 07:50 AM.. |
