Is this thing important?

It appears to be a little brass piece. I think it came out of my fuel line just before the fuel pressure regulator. I'm guessing its there to create more pressure? Is it necessary? The engine is an SR by the way.

Probably a bushing or something to keep the regulator from leaking?

I cant tell from the pic but if it is indeed copper then it is what they call a crush washer that keeps your car from leaking fuel on your fittings. Ill search for a pic i dont know where these go on sr20's

Here it is, it goes on the bolt just like an ordinary washer but it gives it a seal. On the top hose in the pic on the far left a bolt runs through that line to connect it to your fuel system, put one on each side of the line when you put the bolt in. Dont loose it these are hard to find in metric. Hope this helps

The car runs without it but I have had a recurring problem with the car running rich and I was thinking maybe too much fuel is coming through.

Wangon, that is not the same thing, sorry about the pic not showing the profile of it.

Here is a better look.
