S14 Front 5 Lug Conversion Issue
So recently I did the 5 lug conversion on my base model kouki and I ran into a really confusing problem with the front hubs.
This is how my front 4 lug hubs looked like when I pulled them off. When I tried to put the 5 lug hub over the spindle it would not sit all the way in. It wouldn't fit over the ending part of the spindle. There was a piece that sat inside of the bearing that was fairly easy to hit out and it ended up sitting all the way in after hitting it out. This is the piece that I knocked out and the hub fit right over the spindle. After reinstalling everything back together, the wheel shakes up, down, and side to side. I read that the piece I knocked out of the new hub is supposed to stay on but looking at my old 4 lug hubs, they were never there. I bought my kouki all stock around 2 years ago and from what I see someone must've installed it without that piece that goes inside the bearing since it's supposed to be there. That means that my car was being driven for years without that piece. Now do I just look for another 4 lug/5 lug hub with that piece to put on my new 5 lug hub? Btw these 5 lug hubs are from ebay and made to fit stock s14 knuckles and I've seen a bunch of people run them without any issues installing them. first please make your pictures smaller, they are enormous.
second of all that piece that you took out is part of the bearing, so you might have damaged your bearing, if you drove on it. that piece you took out has to be in there, so take off your hub. take pictures of the spindle. and try putting the hub back on after and take pictures of how it wont seat fully. |

look for scarring on the the balls and the walls. but dont take it apart any further cuz you might not be able to put it back together. best bet would be it is check that all the balls are there. (no gaps between balls) and then put it on and make sure it spines nice and smooth with no wobble(after the big nut is tightened

i'm guessing the bearing is now damaged since that other piece came off when i pulled the hub off? this is the back of the hub with that piece that i took off that sits in the bearing this is how the whole hub would seat on the spindle when i put that piece back on that's supposed to be on the back of the hub. it stops at that point and the spindle |

The inner race (old bearing) is stuck on the spindle, The new bearing should sit all the way on the spindle. How did you even get the spindle nut on?

it took little effort to shake the wheel on all sides even before i drove on them so that's what i thought it was. what would cause the wheel to shake so much? front hubs are new and although they are hubs from ebay, i never seen them shake right after installation. |

so i tried to pull off that inner race that's stuck on the spindle but it won't budge. not sure how it could be stuck on there so tight. tried prying it off but it starts to bend the outer piece of the race easily. anyone know how to get this thing off? |

First remove the dust shield, IIRC it should just slide off. Then heat the race with a torch, take a hammer and chisel and work around the diameter of the race, until you have a large enough gap to put on a 3 jaw gear puller on it.

if that's the old one use a small cut off wheel to cut into it , don't cut all the way thru , right before you would cut thru take a chisel and hammer and hit it , that will split the race and it will pull off when that's done
