nope, its a diode so you need to make sure the polarity is correct. (+,-)
They are white, but has a blueish tint. They light up evenly, its just cuz of the cell phone pic

^ It's not worth the hassle. Just get Warm White 5 LED 194s. Cool White 5 LED 194s offer a great look with minimal blue coloring at all.

s13 / s14 is 3 T10 / 194
and 1 T5 / 74 for the clock. some people argue that you need 5 194/t10 and more T5s but thats not the case. the other 2 194s will not illuminate and leave the warning lights red just change the clock if you want and its cheaper. all above pictures were done with 3 t10s and 1 t5 |

As long as you get the 120* Wide Angles you're fine. Minimal hot spots. The 5 LED 194s are where it's at though if you want an insanely bright display.
importdude, sounds like you have a loose bulb. http://superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html

All the SuperBrightLEDs I've gotten for my friends have given the exact same results.
If you're buying shit off eBay then it explains a lot why you would get insane hot spots. Not to mention if they're not 120* wide angle bulbs they'll also produce a lot of hot spots. 120* Wide Angle 194s from Super Bright LEDs provide great light distribution and a cheap upgrade from the stock lighting. Though after seeing the 5 LED 194s from Super Bright LEDs it's definitely the way to go. I wish they made them in 74s so that I can use them with my Type X cluster.
