no, you thought wrong. 180SX was named in reference to the 1.8L CA18DET that it came with in 1989-1990. In 1991 Nissan bumped the motor up to the 2.0L SR20DE or SR20DET, however, they didn't change the name of the car in Japan. They were produced all the way up to 1998 with the SR20 powerplant.
