14 Days until I get my 240SX (Finally!!!)

1996 240SX SE
Black Int./Black Ext. (Cloth)
5-Speed
109,9xx on the Odometer
No rust... No dents... Well, Only one dent on hood by latch (apparently from trying to shut the hood too roughly)

Im one happy camper. Total price is $4,000.00.

I test drove her twice and she is by far peppier than any other stock 240SX I have ever driven.

However, the "check engine" does appear. I cannot figure what could be wrong as the car runs great, has no funky smells or smoke coming out. No apparent problem that I could diagnose. Im thinking maybe a sensor is off or something. This sound familiar to anyone? Is it a common PITA problem on S14's?

Anyway... Is $4,000 a good price for this car?

Thanks!

-Omar

Congrats, these will prolly be the longest 2 weeks of your life, especially if you have no means of transportation right now.

About the engine light, try and get the person to take the car to a dealership (at thier expense) and get it checked out, or just check it yourself. Search and you'll see something on checking engine codes, seems like a simple process, just have to know how to unscrew things and count

EDIT: BTW you coming to the meet tomorrow, come with no car, its all good, theres free food

2 long weeks indeed.

I do have a means of transportation, but I might as well have none as I'm driving an '87 Caddy. I hate this car.

Im hoping that it will be nothing major (the check engine) but I really wont be able to know until after purchase. In either case, this is a car worth the troubles and worse case scenario I can always squeeze some more $$$ out of my dad for the swap. I'll have to kiss some serious bootay though.

Wish me luck. Let ya'll know what happens.

-Omar

BTW: I will need some parts (exterior)

- Stock Front Bumper Lip
- Stock Mudskirts
- Carbon Fiber Hood

Can anyone point me towards the right direction?

Well you could either be super duper patient and search every junkyard for an s14, but from the junkyards I have been to in chicago I have yet to see one s14. So look around for sale sections, or go to a dealer and pay big bucks.

For the CF hood, search and I am sure there are a few sources out there.

I was under the impression than you can't pull codes from and OBD2 240sx without a scan tool.

A generic OBDII code puller that any shop and many auto parts stores have will be able to give a code, though they supposedly arent as descriptive as the codes from a Nissan Consult. Given the fact that the eninge seems peppy, I would say that it is most likely a sensor, and its very doubtful that its an internal engine problem.

I have OBDII, pulled code just fine. Turned out to be my Intake air temp sensor (sensor in the stock airbox) reset ECU never came up again..

mine happen exactly around 111,000 miles while I was troubleshooting it for smog. Open the box and look at the sensor, you will be able to tell if its broken or not, it looks a tiny fuse. Check if its broke, replacement is like $16-18 @ Nissan.

Hmm, I guess your right. Most car companies did away with the pull-your-own-code thing when they went obd. Kudos to Nissan .

You can even pull codes from a consult port based on voltmeter.... .0v -> 12.50v - lots of combinations .. on any car
