~ESSENCE~ S14 1jz build
This car has taken about a year to get to this point. I graduate with my bachelors this December so that has been my main priority. I could never find a clean and complete shell like I wanted so I bought a running car and parted it out. I did it this way so I knew nothing was missing and most shells sit around and collect rust.
the car the day I got it. Clean, running s14 with redtop sr20det sold all the stuff, then got the engine bay stitch welded and a basic 6pt. cage with nascar door bars(which i regret now). The gussets however look badass. also got a new windshield. also decided to rent out a shop with a few friends. Office with an AC was big plus:rockon Installed wilwood brakes and 5 lug. brakes are kind of a wierd setup, but I think it will work. |

Bought a jzx90 motor and tranny and stripped it down. Bought a lot of goodies for it. Got the intake mani coated. valve covers will be coated after motor is in.
installed Greddy relocated and motor brackets/mounts aeromotive afpr + driftmotion kit + non-trac Put the motor in last night, ran into lots of problems. the mounts are custom and turns out they were designed for a mk3 supra r154 and no extended housing. So we were putting the motor in like regular not realizing the shifter isn't clearing. This is awesome b/c the motor sits really far back:eek. What sucks is we had to cut the hole for the shifter. shifter pic. Another problem we ran into was the tranny mount would not line up b/c it was made for a mk3 r154. SO I have to get another custom mount made for the mission lots of room! something exciting coming! |

the rb is a little longer also than the 2jz/1jz also, so clearance up front is even worse . I also think the jz is a much better engine. there's a reason why many people swap these instead of rb's. How many times have you seen a rx-7, s2k, or even a corvette with a rb? not really bashing the RB, they are amazing motors. Lets not turn this thread into a debate. Lets focus on a badass 1jz s14 currently being built. |

^^^^^ i agree with that i would have gone RB or SR. For me if its a nissan keep it a nissan. That is my 2 cents, but props for the car it looks awesome and the engine looks super clean. Cant wait to see more pics and keep up the good work. |

thank god i'm not the only one.
i'm too much of a purist, i'll always believe sr is the most simple and greatest thing to happen to these cars (yeah i know one of my cars is a driving contradiction). however, regardless, i'm really digging the work on this thing guys. cool looking essence cars have been coming out 1 by 1, really great to see south texas represented well like this can't wait to see it finished! (supra motors, while i disagree with them, do sound absolutely AMAZING)

Very nice and unique, That's not what you see on a daily basis!! Good luck with your build.
Regarding the shifter, are you going to do anything to it or you are just gonna live with that?? seems like it is a bit too far back?? And remember to change the water pump before you drop the engine in, they always seems to leak..atleast on my old 1jz.. |

I am also a big RB fan I love them but I also have love for the jz motors. The nice thing is clearance and heat like mentioned earlier. Good luck with finishing your project looks good so far once you fix your mount problems should be down hill from there minus wiring haha enjoy that

Well my wife and I have the best of both worlds. An RB vert and a 2jz s14 in the works. But honestly The only RB which compares to a 1jz is the RB26 and that costs 3x the price of a 1jz. The 2jz is the god of the japanese 6 cylinders. Also costs just a few hundred more than a 1jz. Definately subscribing to the thread as I am going to be running the Driftmotion T67 kit on a 2jz here shortly.
