Painted my front end today. Rest will be done this weekend when i finish the mud work. Front end looks immaculant. Just need one final clearcoat and a buff. I will toss up pics soon.

how are the $200 macco and earl shives (sorry for misspelling) paints jobs?? thinking very hard to go that route or a diy duplicolor rattle can job. thanks for the feedback!

You pay for what you get. Just think about it this way. Lets say a $1000 paint job is very good quality. Lots of things are factored into this cost now (prep, paint quality, labor after spraying, polish, etc). Now imagine how many corners must be cut to produce a $200 paint job.

Well, they are about as good as you can get for $200, and way better than a spray can job. To get the best job out of the deal, do as much prep work as you can, and fix your own dents. They aren't fixing ANY dents for that price, they aren't even sanding anything. Don't expect the paint to last long either, you can't even buy decent paint for $200.

Since this is up and running, and I have done them all.
I will toss in my 2 cents.

If your running a car on the track. Spray paint is fine. Just go real even, lots of thin coats, and wet sand it with 2000 grit wet sand paper.
I dont clear coat, it takes ALOT of layers and always seemed a little pourous.
After your last layer, and a really good wetsand, you can buff the paint to a gloss as well.

$50 paint job. cost about $120 in the end. takes a week and ALOT of elbow grease. for people with garages, no money and time and dedication. look it up. if done right, it really works nice for a cheapy.

Maaco and stuff is what it is. Better than an oxidized car, or a multi colored panel car. And since you have a s13 that cost $1500, why pay more than a few hundred for paint? If the car starts to turn into a amazing car, then you can always pay to have it done right.
But for $500 bucks, your paints gonna match, your car wont look ghetto rolling down the road. And you can pick up dates in it.
you'll feel good about your car and thats important!!!

What makes a big difference is the color you use. And how good you can paint and understand what the paint is gonna do
so stay away from Black IMO. Lighter colors work best. White of course is the easiest. And you wanna do base coats of the same color in Flat before you move onto the gloss.

And I've personally seen the www.paintforcars.com shit. In real life, it really doesnt turn out too bad for 40 dollar paint. Not too bad at all.

Not to be the bearer of bad news for all you who say that painting your car yourself with that spray can shit will look bad. I beg to differ,this will be my second time painting the car. Its white this time and im not looking for serious shine or a seriously good paintjob.Im probably wont have this car long but id rather get rid of the color i have now(burgandy). It will be superwhite. The paint i use is duplicolor. It comes with everything mixed in to get the perfect shine.To prove my point, ill supply pictures of my car.This is all from duplicolor spray paint.




Yea thats right, this is all from spray can. You dont have to believe that it is. I just take my time and do it right. Plus I did no "real" prep work. All i did was take 600 grit and sanded the car down, washed it, then painted it after it dried.Plus the duplicolor clear coat. It all comes out fine if you do it right.You all can now flame me for this if you think im full of it. Pics prove everything. I have never taken my car to a paint shop since i had the car.

I actually rattle canned my car and it came out pretty nice. i took a lot of time in prep. over all it took me about a week a 36$ worth of car paint in a can from kragen oreilly (brother works there so i got paint super cheap). best advice i can give u IS TAKE UR TIME!!!!!!!!

it came out ok, with no clear but this is to just hold me over. plus its forsure step up from the paint it use to have.

thats how mine came out, but everyone still says it looks like crap. So basically no matter what color or how much ill spend on a paintjob it ill still look like crap to others,lol. Quite frankly i dont give a shit what people think of my car. A car is a car and it is what you make of it. Rattle can or not its your car you do what you want.
