2010 240sx Convention ~*~UPDATE PG11~*~
This is an official thread for the 2010 Convention...with that said here is a quick run down. This thread will be updated as necessary....
First off, this is NOT an easy task, and is not for someone who can not COMMIT the time to helping the planning and putting together of the convention. The 2002 Convention was, in the least, not an easy task. Alex Chang had put a lot of TIME, MONEY and EFFORT into making it happen. We want this to go off as well as that one, if not better. Others have tried to duplicate what he had done across the US...and they were no where near as good, or never even made it to game day. We had people from ALL OVER the US come to the '02 convention, a repeat would be awesome. We need volunteers to help make this happen. We need people to be able to commit their TIME. This means, if we have a meeting to discuss event needs and planning, YOU WILL BE THERE! No excuses, no ifs, ands, or buts. You are going to be 100% Committed to helping put this convention together. People that volunteer their time, will be given some perks to this. All of that hard work will not be for nothing. With that said, please post up here what you can bring to the table and only post if you are 100% able to commit to helping make this a HUGE success. People with skills we need are: Graphic Designers (1-2) Web Designers (1-2) Responsible people that are reliable and will be there for the planning (2-3) People to promote this on every forum across the USA that has a 240 on it Let me know any contact info and if you would like to help I would need to know the following. Your name Your contact number City where you work City where you live Your Current Occupation PM ME with "2010 Convention" in the title if you are want to talk to me about the convention and or needs....thanks!

Any discussion of a "240sx convention" should be made on as many forums/venues/mailing lists as possible.
That is the first requirement. -alex |

And... this is really the PRIMARY REASON why I don't want to do another event. It bugs the shit out of me to see how downhill the entire community has gone. While I may have only contributed in the past to FA and was almost exclusively on there (and nowhere else), I made sure events were available to every group of people, if possible. Politics, bickering, and a host of other things makes it difficult to plan an event of this size. But that's just me. -alex |

I would love to help, but I don't think there is much I could do from the East Coast. Even promoting would be hard seeing as this is most likely going to happen in Cali.
Good luck though guys! Make it happen and take lots and LOTS of pics! |

I'm so down for this!!!!
How about promoting this at local shops, flyer's are too expensive but how about a poster? Was not in the scene back in 2002 so I got to ask. Is this another meeting like the happening just on a much larger scale with vendors and such?

Day 1- Speedzone meet up and fun Day 2- Nissan North America Car show, Mr. K came out and signed some Z's Day 3- Track Day at streets of Willow There will be vendors on a much larger scale, and basically what went down on Sunday was a really small version of the convention that Alex put on for us. Sam has wanted to do another one for quite some time, and we decided, why not now? This is a great time to put one together. Hope that explains it a little more for everyone.

Actually...the first convention was in Kansas City in 2001, put together by Louis Snodgrass. That was a damn good time. All the OGs were there, Alex, Mike Mamos, Shawn Schrembi, Rich Bjornson, Jeff Baysinger, Tony To, Greaser, Stonebraker and others. 2002 was a much nicer event from what I saw but you can't beat the old school crew sitting around the dyno talking smack. That was when the community was really tightknit and everyone was cool. I'd give anything to see that type of thing again.

Heartland Park Topeka has a 25-acre skidpad, room shouldn't be a problem. There could be drifting/driving on the track, drag racing, and etc. It's a great facility, and they've been more than willing to accommodate us this year. |

So do we have a general idea of where this is going to be held? Cali for sure? How big of a space are we looking at? How many showed up in 02 approximately? I realize this isn't for over a year, but that's what planning ahead is for right?
I can donate server space for the websites and *light* design work. I work for the hosting company so administering the server isn't an issue for me, but having time to work on graphics/flash/etc between work and school is kinda rough. I have 2 dedicated servers at my disposal with nothing on them. The first is 20Gb HD, 1Tb bandwidth/month and the other is a 40Gb with 1.5Tb/month bandwidth, and another 100Gb of space on a shared server (1Tb bandwidth). I used to specifically work in Flash/Photoshop/Illustrator/Dreamweaver focusing on layout/flash design/motion graphics. But that is intensive work and time consuming. I can offer input/suggestions and occasionally some light work if needed. I am without 3d software though. I would love to see this happen. Feel free to PM me if needed.

There was maybe three Sentras there too, but that's it. Seriously though, good luck on this. If I cared enough about 240s like I used to and could afford it, I'd fly out.

im waiting to get a job for me personally,, but i would be interested in donating some time to help, with graphics etc.
THe 02 convention was the only show i have ever paid and showed up to date.. i was 18 and just went by myself... but its something that i can never forget. I no longer have a 240sx, but look forward to seeing another one. Rotary fans have http://sevenstock.org/ *sadly i missed this year due to car problems that morning*.... I would think with the explosion in popularity of the 240sx in the past years, another one is definitely doable. The supra crowd has Supras invade Las Vegas, and my friend out here has attended all of them for the last few years. Lets make it happen!! Is Nissan's HQ still in carson? i thought they moved? That place seems like it would be historic.. ever watch the Original Gone in 60 seconds? they did the chase right thru that place *datsun at the time*

Southern California is the best location IMO.
All everyone ever talks about is the amount of members here, the amount of events. And If I was gonna travel to somewhere, it would be LA/SoCal. Cause there is so much to do here, and its where everyone vacations, it only makes sense. Im sure us 626DRIFT guys could rent Balcony out for this if you were going to go to WSIR again, like in 02. That way there could be drift as well. I would love to help, but dont have the skills your looking for and with my work, Im completely busy one month and sitting around the next. Let me know if theres anything I can do though. Looking forwards to it. |

They used to have the 510 swap meet in the parking lot there at the old office building. Went to the last one before they moved.
But the park might be more fun for a daytime BBQ meet thing. You can sit down on the grass. Of course I dont know about vendors. Shit, what about the House Of Drift?? Its only a couple grand for the place and Im sure we could have vendors and BBQ?? Are Vendors important to the BBQ/meet day?? If net it will be easier. The park, the beach. Have the Vendors at the track if you have a track day. And Zilvia members are expected to have a zilvia sticker on thier car somewhere |

The responses so far posted really just tell me one thing:
Don't debate the location publically. I've been through this before countless times when I announced the '02 convention in 2001 after getting back from Kansas City, and frankly speaking, it doesn't matter WHERE you have the event, there will always be someone who will talk trash and put you down. SoCal, NorCal, FL, Maine, Alaska. The country is so large, someone will always complain. I only picked SoCal to put on the event because 1) I live here, and 2) I am very familiar with the area. I had a person who had the balls to ASK ME FOR GAS MONEY to drive out to the '02 event. In fact, that same person was posting ON HERE: http://zilvia.net/f/usa/8294-convent...formation.html Recap of event: http://zilvia.net/f/chat/13613-2002-...ecap-long.html Keep in mind these are only threads on Zilvia. There were other threads on other forums, mostly concentrated on FA or NICO. Anyhow, if anyone wants to complain about location, you are free to organize your own local meet of over 100 people, do it for about 4 or 5 years in a row, and not get police kicking you out of a particular venue, and you are qualified to complain. In any case, many people have moved on. I'm almost there, too. -alex |
