So far so good, I like the work and knowledge you have put into this build, going to be checking up on the progress.
Do you plan on keeping the rear hatch foam wing? If not, what do you plan on doing with the holes and what not? |

Thanks for the replies everyone, makes me strive to do the best work I can.
I plan on getting rid of that foam wing. I'm not sure that the wing is even bolted on so there may not be any holes, however, if there are I will weld them up and grind them down. I'm leaning towards a bigger wing though. |

Damn, nice job. I wish I had all the tools you do, and the knowledge to use them What is that grinder wheel thing you used inside the car? I need something to take the paint off fast when I decide to paint my car and that looked like it did an excellent job and put a nice smooth finish on it.

Update!
Got our bender in the other day. Decided to do things right the first time and went with the JD2 Model 4 hydraulic bender. Also bought dies for 1", 1.5", 1 5/8", and 1 3/4" tubing. It was like Christmas when the UPS man showed up with 8 packages . Also picked up my cage material, 1.5" x .109 DOM. Not the bare minimum and not overkill. Had to fabricate a stand for the bender. This thing has a massive degree ring, truly an amazing piece of equipment. Here are some pictures. Not Painted Yet lol 1:00am first main hoop! More updates coming soon! I support this thread. Glad to see more quality DIY fab work on here. I just bought a pro tools bender, stand, dies, precision tig 225, and a notcher. Definitely more money in tools than the car, but so worth it when you have made everything.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't had an update in awhile. I have been super busy with jobs for customers. Not to mention the weather has been absolutely horrible. Here is a small update, my seat finally arrived! I also made a strut bar for a customer. My cage is coming along very nicely only a few more pieces to mock up before I begin welding it in.

Update!
Finally had some nice days this past week to work on the car. Got alot of work done. Fabricated some exhaust hangers to replace the rusted stock hangers and brackets and utilized the stock mounting holes for a clean install. Also cut the cat hump out and replaced it with formed sheet metal to achieve a low seating position. Also fabricated some custom rails for my new seat. Getting all that geometry correct was a pain. After many hours of test fitting and modification we wound up getting the rails within .2 of a degree level. The seat rail is much beefier than most rails I have seen and I won't be worried about what is holding my seat in place. Here are some pics, enjoy. Using the planishing hammer to achieve the right curvature. Using the bead roller to roll some beads into the sheet metal to increase strength. Notching square tube for seat rails. Punching holes for side mount seat tabs. Seat mocked up. Finished seat rail, TIG welded all around. Super strong! More to come! |
